the game is set around the time of the Guiyi Army (or literally translated as "Return to Righteousness" Army against the backdrop of Dunhuang in the Hexi Corridor. The area was extremely arid and was also a very narrow and strategically vital corridor between China proper and the western regions (Tarim Basin and Ferghana during early Tang.)

The Tang and the Tibetan empire aggressively fought over the region for centuries but after the calamitous An Lushan rebellion the Tang lost most of its former western regions to the Tibetan empire. I just watched a short about how China invested 1.5 billion into their entertainment industry because Hollywood had better Eastern representation in their Kung Fu Panda films. I see it's rippled throughout towards their gaming industry as well.
Feels like the West is paying the price being creatively bank rupt then outsourcing. Now the people who have been put to work are exercising their chops. That's what even that Indian game doesn't look like a horrible mess when your first impression should be it 'must be a dud right'. Chinese are better at the cinematic cutscenes so it feels like the natural evolution of Uncharted sony cinema. I don't consider any of this Ubislop because at least they know how to make the Unreal Engine actually run smoothly.
