It's good, as good as it was in 2006. Better graphics and some retooled stats under the hood but in essence it's the exact same game. Warts and all. So unless you just absolutely love the magic system you should give this game another year or two until modders have brought it mechanically up to par with Skyrim. Because right now, Skyrim, especially playing melee and modded, is just straight up the better game.

NTA but level scaling ruins literally everything about the game. Skyrim has it too, but it's less insane about it. Oblivion is a dogshit game with a few decent moments, Skyrim is flat mediocrity. Given a choice, I pick neither and either play Daggerfall/Morrowind or find something else.

What are you expecting? Multiple 400+ post threads a day about it? There's new graphics, there's new VAs, there's a couple new functions. There's hardly anything to say to begin with, let alone for months on end.

NOTHING drives discussion for long these days because no matter how popular a single piece of media is, it's still just a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the common mindspace
There is too much of everything, too much choice and too many different communities
Monoculture is dead and the idea of any piece of media being relevant to the zeitgeist is obsolete.

The lifespan and relevance of any video game outside of it's own community is maybe a week

Oblivion is better as a base game
Skyrim is better for modding since its so flat and stale by default
Overal I still think skyrim wins out just because of modding, same reason minecraft is so good, if its boring you can just change it until it stops being boring
