I don't get the obsession with tri counts these days, modern GPUs are very good at crunching through massive amounts of them. Its the least impactful thing when it comes to modern game optimization, it only becomes a problem if a game just doesn't have any kind of occlusion culling at all.

As we see today. With your philosophy, most games run like shit like they have for 15 years. When you realize that when devs learn to not let a dozen different inefficiencies to pile up all at the same time tanking the performance. You can achieve more resolution/fps. But that would be pro consumer which cost them money. Nintendo will one day be able to target 1080p 60 fps. At least non hand helds can offer upscaled 4k at 60 fps.
