Gen 5 is shit, graphics aside. Everything after gen 4 is shit. PLA and SV are a return to form, though, I know no one will agree with me but it's true.

It’s worse if you played SuMo before USUM because you have to go through all the text again and the gen 7 games just drag on forever. Objectively, USUM is better because it has more Pokemon with better evolution methods and more totems to fight (including necrozma) and the post game is pretty fun. But I mean, is it worth playing the game over again if you already played SuMo? Not really, even if there’s differences. I’m not bringing up the story because even if I think the original game had a pretty decent one, I’ve never really cared THAT much for story in Pokemon and the one in USUM still works.

All I know story wise is that they turned Lusamine from a straight up evil bitch to a still pretty evil bitch but more sympathetic. Maybe they think they went too far with her and and wanted to tone her down to make her more likable.

I got my opinion from playing it twice desu
SV's DLC is good, mostly since Kieran is a good character and hard yumejo bait but I do also appreciate that the second DLC goes in on double battles. That is something I have been wanting for a long time
SV the base game really does not have that much going for it otherwise. I do think the dex is a step up from the previous two gens, it has pokemon I actually genuinely like even if I'm not a fan of the overall art direction of newer gens, much more than I could say about gen 7's dex or god forbid the piece of shit dex in gen 8. Not feeling anything else though, anywhere from the progression of the campaign to nitpicks like the continued commercialization of rotom for some baffling reason I cannot begin to comprehend. I did think it was at least decent for one playthrough though, so already a step up from said gen 7 or 8
I would also have a hard time selling it as a "return to form" when it completely changes the form from route based to open world
