hades 2 has a lot more variance between weapons, more mechanical complexity per weapon, and forces you to use positioning and crowd control instead of iframes

Hades 2 doesnt really have mechanical complexity, the crowd control/positioning is just braindead where every weapon wants to kite, range or charge attack spam. I wanted something more tactical than Hades 1 but this is just the opposite end of the braindead gameplay without the part where you go ham. Bosses encourage you to do ballsy moves a lot less, theyre bland damage sponges
Boons are much worse too, it always feels like generic snowballing and you rarely get some specific combination like artemis+demeter crystals, instantly dealing Doom with an Athena deflect, shit like that. You never get hammer combinations as cool as Cluster Rockets for instance
Not to mention the other problems (Way less variety in chambers were most biomes feel the same, or sometimes you even get biomes with zero level design like the third one of the main path). The best biome in Hades 2 is unironically Tartarus because it just got reused from H1

Doesnt help that H2 is also padded to hell. Your chance for duo boons is infinitely lower at the beginning, you start with many features missing that used to be unlocked right away in H1, shit like that. They even wanted you to only bring 1 tool to gather resources at the beginning

im not usually one for charts-faggotry but this one is a perfect indicator of whats going on
even though hades 2 is the same price, has 'more' content, has more fights, longer progression, much higher peak playercount, shit like that, it still gets played less than hades 1 from five years ago, provided a H2 update hasnt just released
because h1 is simply more fun and engaging to play than h2

it's pretty close to release, next major update is 1.0 so you might as well wait. I've enjoyed my time with the game but I've played and liked every Supergiant game, except Transistor.
