Did anyone actually play this? I only know of it from MegaMan Battle Network.

Yeah, it was pretty fun. Too bad I never went outside and didn't bother to get a lightbulb that would fool the sensor, so I was always stuck at 2 bars or less.

Yes, it was a great short lived series that'll probably never see the light(pun not intended) of day again on modern systems.

I played Boktai 1+2. It's quite the unique experience to play on an actual GBA.

I got my copy of Boktai 1 in early winter, so I was out in my front yard with gloves and a hat on trying to catch the sunlight.
Kojima is a genius.

Would be cool if they used the light sensor on the Switch 2 for a rerelease. Wouldn't be the same since it can't differentiate between types of light but it's the best use of that feature I can think of aside from changing screen brightness.

This, it wasn't TOO bad when I gave it a 2nd chance. I recently replayed the series from Bok 1 to 3 and notice the games were already moving away from its core formula and LK was just the end result. I also think the shitty NA localization also played a major part in the DS game getting a bad rep.

Is there a way for you to start Azure Sky Tower to a 99 floor gauntlet right away? Its crazy that you need to start building it up from F30 and repeat it 22 more times to make it reach F99.

The sequel bait once you finish the NG+ dungeon. Wonder what idea they are cooking on that.

Yeah, playing it on real hardware with the sun blazing down on you was like 50% of the immersion. The solar gun actually *needed* sunlight to work, which was insane but made the experience super unique. Emulating it just doesn't hit the same unless you're doing goofy sensor hacks. Nothing like charging up that Sol Gun while squinting at a non-backlit screen in direct sunlightโ€”pure GBA era jank, pure magic.

I can understand why they tried rebranding and distancing it from Boktai, but I really don't think it worked out in the end. Removing the Mega Man crossover probably hurt it too. That probably would've gotten it more sales.

Introducing space aliens after a battle with vampires sounds retarded after all. I do like the refinement of its gameplay except to the shmup segments of purification. Its definitely just an excuse to have a touch screen gameplay.

I still believe Boktai could have been a flagship Nintendo franchise if they had just made the solar sensor a wired accessory that connected to the link cable slot. Django and Sabata would have been in Smash Bros.

Retarded but somehow still made the world interesting for me. There was already space sci-if stuff going on since the first game. God the Boktai series has some of the weirdest mix of genres out of any game.

>Spaghetti western
>Solar punk
>Vampires
>Werewolves
>Zombies
>Space
>Mechs
>Aliens
And lets just mix in various different animal races because fuck you, that's why.

I was touched they included the Solar Gun in MGS4. Doubt they'll bring it back in the remake or port if either of those ever happen.

>Gives you one of the strongest swords in Boktai 3 just by getting forced to pay a loan 5 times.
>Was already bankrupted by LK because Solar Gun users won't pay their loans
One won't usually use their service in Boktai 1 and 2 since there are ways to get sunlight aside from going outside but 3 sure gaves you an incentive to get forced to pay as it gets funnier the more you get forced to pay.

I remember seeing its previewes & guides in Nintendo Power (the same magazine I was subscribed to where I found out about chris chan before he became a lolcow) it looked very early 2000's anime kino, real product of its time with the sunlight sensor gimmick
