It's not a Collectathon and Bananas are just EXP so finding them doesn't matter, they're not even recorded in your item count or menu.
even if you want to find stuff and think it's "too complicated" you just upgrade your sonar (this games retard vision) and then you know where everything is by hitting a button.

but the game works by erasing vertexes and placing new ones in a position somewhat relative to the punch hitbox.
destroying shit doesn't really increase or decrease the number of vertices.
Billy hatcher had a system like this for the snow all the way back on the gamecube.

so it's not exactly a demanding system and there's no reason the environments or the mesh holes needed to be so low fidelity.
and there's definitely no reason the textures needed to be so flat and low resolution. It's just a lack of care.
