Picked Death Stranding up since it was only $15 and have played a few hours. I love the aesthetic and overall feeling of the game so far since I like Kojima's stuff anyway, but was wondering how long it takes for the game to really open up and whether the deliveries will get tedious or not. I'm worried that I'm gunna start getting tired of the core gameplay aspect that is delivering shit.
Anyone actually play this and can tell me your thoughts?

It can get tedious. Its not a game i would try to finish all at once

Chapter 3 or 4 is when things open up. I forget which, I wanna say 3 though.

Once you beat the first first boss you should go to the second area that has the rest of the map

Deliveries can get tedious, but I like that kind of stuff, you can complete the highway system, set up a zipline system, or other ways to make deliveries easier, but the core of the game stays so if you think you'd get tired of it then I would just race through the story

Chapter 3 is when the main world opens up
Chapter 5 is when you have the majority of the equipment to be freely usable

Yea, I definitely got that impression. I bought it for the purpose of having a game I can play an hour or three here and there rather than something I play nonstop for the next week
>>713217998
Gotcha. I'm mostly looking for when I can start using the bike and trucks and sorta doing my own thing outside of the story.
>>713218163
I'm just worried that I won't want to go through the game due to the core delivery system.

Don't bother delivering pizza
That's just for hardcore players

You can deliver pizza? That's pretty funny. Do you get anything good for it?

There's a guy who keeps asking you to deliver pizza to him and you don't get any rewards until the end but by that point I was done with the game

I enjoyed the game a lot until I noticed I had like 60 hours and it was at that point I started rushing through it which made me enjoy it less

Yeah it's Chapter 3 when the game stops holding your hand and basically drops you into the full gameplay loop. You'll get access to vehicles, more freedom with your routes, and start building out actual infrastructure. That's when it really clicked for me — just cruising down a highway I built myself while listening to Low Roar was peak comfy. If you’re into the world and the chill traversal, it only gets better.

You need to get out of the starting area as fast as possible IMO, it drags on too long and the terrain and everything isn't very good in that area. Once you get to the main map the game opens up a lot more and there's a lot more to do.

Does the terrain flatten out some? So far it's been lots of steep inclines and fucking rocks to stumble over everywhere.

I have a question for Death Stranding fans. How many hours of cutscenes are focused on toilets or diarrhea?

The game is only about delivering and avoiding the obstacles to deliveries, the obstacles and your means to avert them change throughout the game though. The joy of the game is in making the impassable wasteland your bitch eventually. Read the manual in the menu after a few hours of accruing hints or you won't know half the things you can do. The most tedious part of DS is pressing A for all the menus and popups in the game, there must be hundreds.

Just dont use the online features and you are good in terms of the walking aspect, as long as you like the environments, atmosphere and optimizing your routes.

Do people just place shit everywhere or something? I've used a couple ladders and ropes in the starting area from other players.

A lot of it is building knowledge and getting access to some more things. Knowing your tools, what you should prep for on a route, even navigating that tedious UI. Later areas are more exciting and challenging too, with more story stuff so it doesn’t feel monotonous. It’s hard to say when all that happens. At some point you find yourself building a generator in the snowy mountains to charge your leg attachments and you say “this is badass”

It doesn't get tedious. Instead the game starts adding conveniences that actually remove the fun from traversal
