In a stunning act of what users are calling “vindictive moderation,” a 4chan volunteer moderator known only as **ABIB** has reportedly deleted multiple active threads related to *Deltarune*, the beloved indie game by Toby Fox — and according to internal leaks and user testimonies, it may have been *entirely out of spite*.

The incident, which unfolded over the past 48 hours on 4chan’s /v/ and /vg/ boards, saw a wave of *Deltarune* discussion threads abruptly removed, often without explanation. Screenshots circulated across platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and the Something Awful Forums (yes, it still exists), showing ABIB tagging posts as “off-topic” or simply removing them mid-conversation. In some instances, threads disappeared within seconds of being posted.

Sources within the 4chan moderation community, speaking under condition of anonymity, suggest that ABIB had expressed personal annoyance with *Deltarune* fans, describing them as “insufferable” in internal communications. One source claimed:

> “He \[ABIB] thinks the game’s fandom is overdramatic and cringe. He said if he has to read one more theory about Spamton, he’s going to ‘nuke the board.’ And, well, he did.”

The move has reignited long-standing debates about 4chan’s opaque and often arbitrary moderation system, particularly the power wielded by unpaid, anonymous volunteers. Despite having no formal employment contract, pay, or accountability, moderators like ABIB hold the ability to shape — or in this case, silence — entire corners of discussion across the site.

“This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when you let someone moderate an influential online space for free,” said Dr. Harriet Lin, a digital culture researcher at MIT. “ABIB doesn’t answer to anyone, doesn’t get paid, and appears to be moderating for personal amusement. That’s not a stable foundation for fair content oversight.”

Outraged users flooded the board with protest threads — many of which were also promptly deleted — and created parody posts highlighting ABIB’s unpaid status. One popular image edit circulating on X (formerly Twitter) reads: *“Imagine deleting art threads for free. Couldn’t be me.”*

4chan has yet to release an official statement, and as always, the site maintains a strict policy of not commenting on individual moderator decisions. Attempts to reach ABIB for comment were unsurprisingly unsuccessful; the moderator is known for operating under total anonymity and has no public-facing online presence.

In the absence of an apology or policy change, many *Deltarune* fans are migrating discussions to alternate platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Cohost — platforms with more transparent moderation standards (albeit still occasionally chaotic).

Meanwhile, users continue to track ABIB’s activity like digital storm chasers, warning others of sudden deletions and archiving every known purge. One user summed up the sentiment with a now-viral quote:

> “ABIB may be unpaid, but the damage is real.”

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: whether motivated by boredom, disdain, or sheer pettiness, a single unpaid moderator has reminded the internet just how fragile community spaces can be — especially when they depend on the whims of volunteers with unchecked power and zero compensation.

Ick on eck is more sane than any of us.
He posts a few pictures and videos and then he gets a three day vacation.
Meanwhile us rule followers are stuck here. Our brains slowly deteriorating as our minds get no break from the rot. Posting over and over again without pause.
Sometimes when you win, you lose.

It's more like mods can't do anything but use the same janitorial staff that's left after the 4chan hack. After that large wave of doxxed emails on top of how many security faults 4chan has, it's no secret that people don't wanna do anything for this site. Wouldn't shock me to learn if people don't pay for 4chan passes anymore aside from the few bothosting shills.
