3D games were a huge shift from 2D. Compare that to going from a tv screen to VR headset.

i played some of it but i watched a playthrough of it. it's pretty cool if you like dungeon crawlers with good music/atmosphere. if you emulate it you can run it at solid 30 fps instead of the drops down to like 10fps that happens on hardware

Unless you're really tolerant of early 3D dungeon crawler jank, probably not. I think some of the later ones are better but those early ones are really rough.
Not saying don't play them, I'm just saying they're not "hidden gems".

I played KF1 and 2 (Japanese numbers I mean, in america/yurop we never got KF1 and our KF1 was KF2) I liked them both but they're both, they're both good adventures I think, but not good games, and KF1 in particular has a final boss that's kind of a meme basically it has thousands of hp and you're only supposed to kill it with 1 specific weapon you get from an npc quest, however one of the spells (the air one idr the name) does hit every frame its projectile is inside an enemy so that also works for killing the boss
I didn't use guides for either game though, so I can say they are somewhat reasonable to navigate on your own, but they do have some memes that might hold you up for a few hours.

I know this is /v so you'll >tranny post at me, but I enjoyed lunacid as a king's field-like, even though it does have stat allocation it's still a fairly simple, nice adventure like king's field
I don't have any dog in the tranny race, don't care, don't trannypost at me I just like king's field's style of gameplay

I dont care about tranny nonsense. Anybody who does doesn't value gameplay, they value politics and ragebait. That said Lunacid is nothing like Kingsfield, you saying so means you blindly bought into marketing babble.

I've played both, (in addition to most other fromsoft games using the king's field engine) you can play lunacid exactly like king's field if you want, you can also play it nothing like king's field, all just depends on how you allocate your stats. Cool if you didn't enjoy it though, but I liked it both using a build that makes it play just like kf and builds to make it play like a fast fps.

You cant outstrafe the enemies because they magnetically lock onto always facing you, even if you could your own mouselook would make circling trivial.
This has drastic damning effects on melee combat. Just like how Shadow tower abyss in specific slows you when you swing.
Its a system by someone who is entirely mistaken about what Kingsfield gameplay actually is

I played it with a controller with a setup to make it play identically to kf2 so I didn't have that problem, you can easily outstrafe enemies even with the lowest speeds (I've done a pure level 1 run)
I'm not trying to defend the game but you're just blatantly wrong bro

Oh I get what you mean, you're right, you can't just circle strafe them infinitely with low speed, you're supposed to backstep between attacks, yes
That is a legitimate difference that's fair, although I preferred it

i tried the japanese original, it is interesting. very cool atmosphere, you start off with a lot of questions which is interesting, but i didn't get very far. it is a lot like the original zelda, it just throws you in to explore. the last time i tried it, my computer was too weak to run even ps1 emulators. and if you don't overclock your emulator, the game runs very poorly, so i recommend a limit removing emulator like the mednafen psx one.

Played through the PS1 games recently and my answer is most definitely yes, some things to note though.
>The first game is JP only so the easiest way to play it is on an emulator with an iso that is fan translated
>The first one is a pure dungeon crawler but the second and third game(1 and 2 in the US) are alot more open in terms of exploration
Havent played 4 yet but so far all of them have great soundtracks.

They are great games if you like dungeon crawling. If not then there is no point in playing them outside of trying a novelty. I still think kf1(jp) has the best pacing out of all of them. Only beat by shadow tower, the sister series to kf
