Pretty much everything I hear about IDW is that it's not very good. Is there anything actually redeeming about it from a writing standpoint? Sometimes I think about getting into the Archie, Fleetway, and IDW comics but there are so many issues and I feel like I'd just drop it anyway.

IDW is probably the worst one of those 3 to get into because nothing ever happens in it and it inherits all the flaws from Ian Archie run except tenfolds
it is the one that's the closest to the games but it is absolutely not its saving grace
as >>713234723 stated Archie is bad but it's just so batshit insane you'll probably have a few laughs along the way but it can also be a slog too. some people will tell you to start around the soft reboot (when Ian started writing for the comic) but honestly you'll be lacking all of the meat and context for those stories so you should be reading starting from issue #1 anyway. Beware that it also had spinoff comics like Knuckles the Echidna, the Sonic Super Special, Sonic Universe, etc... so don't forget to read those too
Fleetway is the most solid out of the 3 imo but there is a slow decrease in quality once the saturn dry spell hits and good luck finding anyone that'll talk about it online

The only thing that gave Sonic games any fame is the stories once they started to make shitty stories like Unleashed shut up no one cares about Chip the stupid chocolate eating faggot or worse Sonic Colors the games started to suffer. And once the franchise started to rely on nostalgia its the symbol that the franchise is stagnating.

The movie (First one) was okay at best, and the comics are only good as a corporate funded reaction image catalog.
And lately it's not even really as good as that.
It's also pretty gay to be coping about how the games are especially bad 19 fucking years after the actual bad one came out.
