FF has never been a particularly difficult franchise but at least it had some pain points added into its system (Things like poison and other status effects) But FFXVI dilutes the formula so much that the combat/gameplay barely changes once you are done with the demo.
Not to mention the swath of perfunctory, terribly designed quests, the laborious and useless "crafting" system, underutilized or plainly dropped plot points and characters, the lack of a party system, etc.
It has good qualities, and good moments. But the game has a lot dragging it down.
Would still say it's a solid 7/10 tho.
