Anytime someone says they don't like this game I assume they are low IQ.

Breath of the Wild is a revolutionary game design that has yet to be recreated. Not even Tears of the Kingdom, which many claim is a simple DLC to this game, can come close to the understated genius of Breath of the Wild. If you don't get it then I'm sorry but you probably never will.

Nigga it's Ubishit towers open world slop, with the same copy-pasted bokoblin camps and huge swathes of nothingness. You finally get to a shrine and it's the puzzle takes about as long as the loading screen and transitions.

If you can't see past the shtick 5 or so hours in, you are stupid. This shit killed Zelda, which has always relied on a strong sense of progression and content, not copy pasted time wasters thrown in to try and hide how empty and worthless the open world is. It is a game for people who like literal walking sims and it's sad how many are too dumb to realize they're playing a walking sim.

>I need to collect weapons because... I just do!
The core gameplay and main interaction with the game is about fighting the enemies using weapons. The weapons break. This means that you need more weapons. The enemies get tankier faster than the weapons get better. This means that you need more weapons.
Either you did not play the game or you just wandered around for a few hours, sneaking around or running away from every enemy.

It's a trademark sign of ADHD people to seek instant gratification and only prioritize combat and tangible benefits of collectibles / tasks in games. They have no understanding of any kind of slow-burn material in any media.
They find it difficult to process any kind immersive experience and sense of adventure that everyone else takes from something like BotW.

It's a placeholder game because they took too long to develop it and risked sunsetting the Wii U without a new Zelda game, which would be a very bad look if they were trying to revive their brand.
It never coherently builds towards anything, you just play unrelated challenges until you get bored.
The game is at its most coherent during the tutorial, during self-contained challenges (like Eventide or Trial of the Sword) and Hyrule Castle, but everything else is just a mess.
It's fun, but only in the way that most post-2011 games are fun.

>It never coherently builds towards anything, you just play unrelated challenges until you get bored

The game gives you a single quest: Save The Princess.

And then the entire game is about you figuring out how to do this all on your own. You are let loose in a massive dynamic, systemic open world and have to overcome adversity using your own wits and resources. Every single thing you do contributes to your main quest.

Low IQ plebs got baffled because the game wasn't holding their hand and they couldn't feel any sense of progression without being guided down a corridor of linear checkpoints.

The moment to moment gameplay is systemic, the actual world is small, often scripted chunks, hence why I stated that the game's best parts are the ones that basically encapsulate the entire moment to moment gameplay like the tutorial, eventide island or hyrule castle.
The game's single quest is "play until you get bored", there is nothing really demanding that you figure out how to save the princess.

The other regions have other ways to enter. Zora's Domain even has different cutscenes depending on where you first meet Prince Sidon. Even OOT (a N64 game) had more options for entering the Gerudo's Fortress than BOTW does. Of course you don't need to do any of the content other than getting some good equipment and going to the castle, but it's still lazy of the developers.

iirc the gameplay lead said he was inspired by the open world of Red Dead Redemption, but I think BotW had something different and special with it's climbing and flying mechanics, which allowed you to traverse anything. It also gave the stamina upgrade system meaning and depth: you couldn't climb any mountain right off the bat, you had to grind and improve your stamina through shrines or gear.

My only complaint with BotW is no deep or meaningful boat/ocean sections. There are only two islands in the game of any significance, both of which were pretty small.

I was saying the climbing mechanic in BotW, which RDR did not have, was given additional depth by having a stamina system. I was not arguing or debating it's use in other Zelda games

Rare items/enemies, shrines , mini bosses, and the enjoyment that comes with general exploration into parts previously unknown.

I don't even need OoT style dungeons, although I think the aesthetic and thematic variety in OoT is absolutely more interesting than the Divine Beasts. If they're gonna commit to being a big open adventure and highlight the danger and survival aspects of said adventure though, I wish they'd take a page out of something like Ultima Underworld or Legend of Grimrock, where a dungeon is a big dangerous place where you can get lost or die easily.

I think the original Legend of Zelda still does a fantastic job of making dungeons feel like a threat. If BotW is supposed to feel like the original game, why are the dungeons so toothless?

Yes Nintendo should have added ridiculous clunky sub pages to your inventory for your horded broken weapons and pointlessly bloat the game's mechanics for weapon forging. It's good game design to dump worthless mechanics into a streamlined system.

Nintendo should hire you right away

Nta, and you make some fair points. But I sort of viewed the entire map as a dungeon in BotW, and the divine beasts a quasi boss in and of itself (or course there is an actual boss fight at it's completion). It is easy to get lost and even die in BotW if you aren't prepared, especially on the harder difficulties. My 2 cents. I can appreciate both games for what they are.

Nah they actually add depth to the gameplay.

You have to explore the world to find ingredients.
Ingredients can be cooked into meals to help you move faster, climb faster, keep warm/cold, give more health, give more strength, give more stamina.

These all the player to create non-binary solutions to adversity and explore further.

Kill yourself, retard. Cooking was genuinely fun, but you're exaggerating its utility. By the time that you had decent ingredients, you probably already had armour that did the same thing, but better, and were skilled enough to parry all attacks and avoid damage in general. The only exceptions were things like the mighty bananas and stamina and endura shrooms, which remained easy to obtain and useful for most of the game.

I played it 8 years ago on my Wii U. The ones who care about the divine beasts still do jackshit beside the new champions who just help you get close and the divine beasts are basically harmless. Kass is a glorified hint dispenser more than any real character, but even then that's only 3 people in the entire world. None of the characters got off their ass for a century to do anything, they just sat around for a deus ex machina to save them, the world, and their princess.
Botw sucked, its lore sucked, its worldbuilding sucked, its story sucked, and its characters sucked, and its fans suck. There's a reason the only ones people care about are the ones they goon to. Blow it out your ass.
