THe biggest con is that they do that really lazy hard mode thing of turning everything into sponges and you into paper. Especially egregious here since you're supposed to be a big daddy and sound like a walking tank

i can't get immersed in video games where you play anything other as a human male, it just feels off, even in 1st person. it feels weird to play as a big creature with drill for a hand, or a female for that matter

i played 2 before 1 cause I was late to the party and I'll tell you despite 1 having a superior story it was hard to go backwards cause I loved finding the little sisters and seeking out the corpses to harvest and the big daddy in general played heavier along with the dual plasmid/gun dynamic. Thankfully 1 had vastly superior story. Shame infinite was weak cause it started really strongly, Booker was great, Eleanor was obviously dreamy, and I loved Colombia but it just completely lacked that open exploration feeling and I just wanted to explore Colombia like people were still living there but only like 2 levels feel like that

But you're functionally a human male in a diver's suit. How exactly does it feel off? If anything, playing as subject Delta is a masculine power fantasy, since you're a 7ft monstrosity that can make splicers ragdoll with your drill. Does it put you off a game or can you tolerate it?

NO EXTREME DIFFICULTY MODE.
Game's walk in the park. Bioshock 1 becomes a walk in the park too midway but there's still a moderate challenge using a gamepad on the hardest difficulty mode. Bioshock 2? You're invincible nothing can stall your progress. Gay.

You are "just" a juiced up guy in a diving suit, newer models of big daddies aren't as lucky because they are essentially fused with their suits. Minerva's Den shows that you can revert all the physical and mental changes of the Alpha series, aka the dudes you play as in Bioshock 2.

I didn't kill Stanley.
I did, however, lay multiple explosive mines and trap wires around him.
For all practical purposes, there's no way he would've be able to leave alive. Didn't actually kill him myself though, so it didn't count.

It refined the gameplay and the multiplayer was a hidden gem. the atmosphere and overall feel is downgraded from 1 though, thereโ€™s characters that feel generic and like they came from a chatgpt prompt. Unlike 1 where a lot of the cast feels important and interesting. I lost interest in most of the side characters in 2 like 3 hours into the game, and thatโ€™s grim when a lot of the narrative and story is pushed through the audio tapes.

The one called Gill Alexander died inside that mutated monster a long time ago. The animal you see is begging to continue its existence in the bottom of the ocean where it will hurt nothing once stripped of its control. No different from Stanley that begs for his life.
The sculpture that depicts Delta pulling out the soul of Gill from the carcass of Alexander the great was a mistake.

good post. Bioshock 2 is a disaster, literally standing on the shoulder of the original as the ONE good thing it has going for it. It's absurd it gets any praise at all really, it is one of the blandest sequels ever made.

Another thing is that combat in Bioshock is not good and they did nothing to improve on it really except for allowing plasmids to be used with your other hand. So the further into the game you get the worse the playing experience is, because it just isn't fun to shoot a ton of enemies, the engine, the game feel just wasn't made for it. Bioshock 1 is the same, as soon as combat gets overwhelming it becomes a drag to play, it is much better played as like a slow game where you take on maybe 3 enemies at a time at most.

All this said, I do believe Minerva's Den is a worthy entry that more or less rivals Bioshock 1, it utterly mogs 2 into oblivion.

in Bioshock 1 rapture is designed like a mall, the interiors feel like they make sense as a "city underwater"
In Bioshock 2 rapture is designed like an actual city, you have retarded shit like fucking diners in industrial looking gas station areas and it does not work even a little. It just looks stupid.

Burial At Sea which people clowned on, again brings that rapture design back to its mall feel and vibe and its so much better than all of the bioshock 2 levels aesthetically.

Replaying Bishock last year I realized how much better they are as slow games, I wish they had been survival horror games rather than full blown shooters.
Playing Bioshock 1 with just walking, ignoring the running mechanic all together feels so much more appropriate in terms of pacing and feel.
