Why are people always so happy when a previously niche series is destroyed in the name of mass appeal, as if niche series' NEED to appeal to everyone? One entry explodes into the mainstream and completely ruins the future of the series, like World in monster hunter or Ryza with Atelier

They're not actually happy about it.
They never liked the niche thing, and are resentful that other people like something and are enjoying themselves.
They act happy about things being enshittified for mass appeal not because it adds to their own joy, but because it takes joy from people they are jealous of.

Because it's finally worth getting into when their friends say it's okay to get into something.

But I don't get why devs themselves ruin their own games doing this shit

cuz then there is more media to enjoy, no one actually thinks about the guy who was into the niche thing or the future of the series because it's irrelevant to then, they just think "can i consume this piece of media and have fun?"
and it really comes from who percives as "destroyed", someone's destroyed might be another ones "fixed"

money, but also wanting to see what they have created reach more people, many creators get their satisfaction out of seeing other people enjoy their media, so they would rather see it appeal to everyone than remain "authentic" because sometimes what the original public considered to be authentic wasn't that good in the eyes of the creator or the public

Outsiders who only care about riding the social media wave now that something is popular.

Development costs are a bitch and every exec + shareholder wants to see numbers go up.

thats not even a "normalfag" i suppose, it's more a "levels of thinking" type of deal
the perceiver changes how one interprets reality, it's not a "people who are more studied, who are into deeper things will think that way, and the cattle thinks that other way" it's "each person interprets reality a different way because of several factors"
essentially, it's not that "outsiders" are dumb or "the culture" "elites" or however you wanna label it are smart, it's simply a difference in interpretation, for one to judge that way of thinking as "bad" or "good" he would have to go really deep into phenomenology

i'm gonna take a risk and assume that you aren't happy with it either, why do you matter and those people who don't, don't? i'm genuinely curious
