I thought Fate was just about a magic cup trolling humanity into killing each other for no reason
What's ORT do?

>Caring about fate beyond the first game
What makes people do this? I played the first right after it came out and it's clear they didn't want to make eroge anymore

Around a million years ago, a Spider descended from space wove its web in South America. When this creature was later discovered by the mages, an expedition went into its territory and all died, crystallized and were absorbed into its being (save the one who died after giving the report back home). His report indicated that it was terraforming the territory around it, but it was hibernating.
Essentially, it's a giant apocalypse monster that eclipses the power of everything on the planet. It's not an exaggeration to say that the entire purpose of the Mage association is to prepare for ORT's awakening and prevent human extinction.

that dying gacha has had more influence on the nasuverse than anything before that, secondary.
