It's because modern games don't punish them enough for not reading. Back when you could render the game unwinnable without a guide if you skipped one line of dialogue, and guides were offline books that had to be bought for real money, people paid more attention.

Any mods similar to the RE remake ones with aggressive jiggle physics and massive mammaries on stellar blade yet?

this. we massively over corrected, then we said "no this is too easy even for an average gamer", then feminism/journos happened and we over corrected again

if you made a game today that reset you to the start of the level or area when you died most people would lose their fucking minds

they expect games to all have the same ubiquitous controls and design. most people play one type of game and that's it. any game that tries to break the mold even a little bit gets castigated.
>they barely read dialogue
>even the things they read they immediately memory hole
partially because when you make videos of yourself playing games you are already overtaxing yourself to try and be entertaining/pay attention to chat (if it was livestreamed while playing the game, it isn't entertaining to watch someone else read and things fly out of their skull as they try and do goofs and gaffs.
>they don't try to understand the game
>"game bad >:("
this extends beyond games. people want things to fit into prescribed boxes, they don't want or like encountering new things.

Im probably guilty of this. About half way through stellar, still only using two combos (all weak and 2 weak, 2 strong) and the multi stab special you start with. I bought the first levels of those moves that are after dodge or parry and never remember to use them. Ive got about 30 unspent skill tree points because I know I wont use any of that shit anyway.
Still think the game is great anyway.
