Good fucking lord I reacted to this like an actual animal. Like a torrent of teenage hormones just flooded back into my body the instant I saw this specific crop of Ashe. Pic rel is some more nostalgic sexo.

Anyway delete Vaan, level the difficulty curve out a bit (game plays itself in generic encounters then kicks you in the nads in certain boss fights), tighten the pacing and also some chunks of story could probably be cut without sacrificing much important. I love FF12 though so it's hard to think of ways to "fix" what's already great. Gambit system is fun and Ivalicekino never misses.

I can see FF12 disappointing a 13 year old, its story is slow and plodding, it's very brown and dull looking, the gambit system would have been a mix of kind of confusing and boring. It's still not a perfect game (out of the complaints I listed, the story is still a sticking point) but you might like it now that you're older.

Funny this was and still is me with Final Fantasy XIII. XII is still my favorite FF and I got a PS3 just for XIII and it was so bad it killed my interest in JRPGs that whole console generation onward until I played Xenoblade on the 3DS which rekindled my love of JRPGs. XII holds up though I would give it another try with fresh eyes.

FFXII is a lot of ideas that went nowhere put in a row to excuse how they had wasted years in not having a properly written plot but the dungeons were too cool to change them.

Opposite situation there. Taro wrote the game for brother Nier, but Square Enix LA office insisted they needed an adult tough guy. Compromise the west got the latter, and Japan got brother Nier.
That said I'm pretty sure the FF12 story comes from a mistranslation of an interview where it was said that because of the older protag in Vagrant Story not doing well, they opted for a younger one this time.

PS2 has the stronger enemies but your party can learn everything at the same time, that's kinda boring imo and turns into a steamroll easily. Also the 9999 damage cap makes Yiazmat longer than what it should be.
IZJS adds a neat job system, you can only pick one per character. Also you can play as espers, something the PS2 version doesn't allow you to do.
TZA has the most content and the dual job system, but it's a lot easier since you have both nerfed enemies and the ability to cover nearly everything you need thanks to all characters speccing twice.

TZA made other changes to soften the difficulty curve such as changing spell placements.
OG PS2 version is the one I would recommend less nowadays, job system helps the license board flow better and you get to use more things instead of giving everyone the same spells and weapons.

Yes, the AI which you program specifically to act in the way you need them to in order to succeed in a given fight, which you can alter on the fly to meet the changing demands in each encounter.
The only people who unironically say that FFXII plays itself literally did not play the game, because there are a fuck ton of encounters where you'll be in and out of the menu adapting your gambits and equipment, swapping in party members, and other shit to eke out victories.

Nothing imo, TZA is great, it's just somewhat easy because it's IZJS except they let you dual class and they change a few other things in the backend that let more spells run simultaneously but that's autism level shit you don't need to worry about. In general just think of it like vanilla is vanilla, IZJS is a sort of "challenge mode" total overhaul rebalance of vanilla, and TZA is IZJS but easier because of dual classing + some other subtle changes that only matter if you're 'tismcore
I'm just saying when I want vanilla FFXII, it's just a better experience playing TZA modded to be like vanilla, than actually playing vanilla, since TZA runs so much better.
