Everything that GIVES retards the impression of it being hard is artificial. The most obvious example is the fact that when you die you gotta walk for 5 minutes with everything respawing, just to get back to where you were. Its not that the game is hard, it just does its best to make you "one shot" content to avoid replaying it to get to where you were.
Any game could do this. The first half Nioh 2 for example, is harder than any Dark souls ever is. Because mechanically its a way more skill intensive game than any Dark souls
