Kirby Air Ride is not a kart racer. It's a proto-battle royale game where the final kart mini-game is a victory lap for whether you won the PvP + prediction mini-game in the game proper.
I've had enough Smash Bros for a fucking lifetime, especially since Melee and Project M still both play way better than Ultimate.
They should make work with Harada to make a legitimately great Pokken instead

Sakurai is legitimately a legendary figure within the gaming industry. People rag on him because they like to vent about Smash's problems by shitting on the face of the dev team, but the fact is that Sakurai works on incredibly high-impact games that not only make a fuckton of money but actually complete on time. He doesn't make perfect games, but he's legitimately talented on making sure a product that's above basic consumer expectations gets delivered on time.

Ultimate's gameplay is a bit flawed, but I would still rather get a random set of updates for it than risk an inferior Smash 6. Whatever goes I guess. Air Ride getting a sequel was not something I expected and I fuck with it.

Nintendo is going with someone else (likely just an internal team). It was a strange arrangement that only happened because of Iwata and he's been gone for 10 years. Plus, he gets paid on sales rather than a fee or salary. This is fine normally but when the game sells 30 million, Nintendo paid him way more than they would if they just made it themselves. The fact he's making Kirby and not Smash tells you all you need to know

Sakurai leads the project but if Nintendo has demands then he still has to follow them. Remember, Sakurai implied Corrin as a DLC character in S4 was a Nintendo decision since he said Corrin was a "strategic decision", which most likely means launch synergy with the western release of Fates. DK may or may not have stuff from Bananza as part of his moveset but he will 100% be using the new design for that reason. Also honestly DK isn't really doing anything new in Bananza besides his transformations. He has the hand slap which is already in Smash, he has the roll which is already in Smash, he has the wind up punch which is already in Smash, etc. At most I can just see him getting a new final smash using the Bananza transformations or maybe they'll give him the double jump with the rock as a new recovery.

The pay is damn good and guaranteed, but working with so many fucking companies that are specific about their characters and IP's is a fucking headache. Remember that Sakurai also said there are characters that can never join Smash, and he's not talking about non-video game characters either. I bet there were characters that Sakurai considered that he couldn't get due to some bullshit stipulation the companies have in place (Back in Smash 4, Pikachu's ears had to be visible at all times). I fully expect Nintendo to have a new guy or a new team ready to go with producing the next Smash title, one they can be more hands on. You thought the shill picks were bad last decade, the next game is gonna be unapologetic with them. You'll be lucky if you see some of the fan favorites like Falcon, Ness and even G&W.

I don't think we will see a ton of different playable characters. Due to the copy ability mechanic being the item system I think it will mostly still be Kirby's with different karts.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the maps were all still original designs, and aren't based on ANY Kirby game.

Anon, Sakurai continued to do Smash due to being close to Satoru Iwata, who is no longer here. Ultimate was his last wish to Sakurai, and no surprise that Sakurai treated Ultimate like a once-in-a-lifetime event. Now that the deed's been done, Sakurai is more or less done with Smash in the sense of no longer having Iwata to lean him into it. If he does come back for Smash, it's going to be a while. Air Riders is his reward and he's definitely going to take it.

We're not in Iwata's era anymore, this is Furukawa's era, the shareholder-approved suit. You think they won't do it without him? Think again.

He treats all of his games like it's a once in a life time event. Right now, he's at the cusp of hitting a 100 character roster. He's gonna get it done. He's in the best position for it. Back in the day the general sentiment was we played the Kirby Air ride, they had demo kiosks pretty much everywhere. We enjoyed it but almost universally everyone said just wait for mario kart double dash instead. It just got overshadowed by the bigger and undeniably better game. People are lukewarm on Mario Kart World. Once the honeymoon period wears off a massive chunk will go back to mario kart 8.
