Going to an area and finding it impossible then coming back later and succeeding, or mopping the floor with things that used to be challenging, make you really feel that you are getting stronger. It is both satisfying as well as assists the narrative of growth. It helps make you feel that the character (remember its a role playing game) is getting stronger.
Level scaling simply removes that.
