You literally lose skill points every time you bump into someone. The scoring system of this game is horseshit. You lose points for using specific fucking items even though it's the game that decides what you get. You get penalized for picking Yoshi. You also lose points if you ever hit a wall, use the brakes, let go of accelerate and drive off road. It's like an actual fucking driving test.

Mario Kart DS was the first game in the series where handling actually felt good.

Double dash is the game. I did play and liked Super Mario Kart and 64 but nowadays I don't have much fun when I do. But I can always go back to Double Dash onwards and the games are still fun (Wii kinda sucks though).

I wish I liked Super and Advance. I can appreciate Advance being better in practically every way than Super, but a super-charged Super is still Super.

But I really can't get over just how good and memorable 64's levels are on average, including the battle stages. Double Dash has really fun cooperative multiplayer unlike any other game. 8 Deluxe with DLC is a monster, 64 has a bunch of cool little gimmick things more memorable than the game itself (make your own emblem, DS download play without cartridges, missions, first online DS game, blow into your mic to blow up balloons, R.O.B., etc.)

the game has a bunch of statistics it ranks you upon in grand prix, one of those including the character you selected
if you play as yoshi you earn 0 points from that statistic. he's the only character that has this for whatever reason
