To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Death Stranding. The gameplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the trigger buttons most of the traversal will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also Kojima's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his writing - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Hollywood movies, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just films - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Stranding truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the meaning behind Amelie's existential catchphrase "Like Mario and Princess 'Beach'" which itself is a cryptic reference to videogame classic, Super Mario Bros. 2. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kojima's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Norman Reedus tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

>It's not a walking simulator! Kojima-san wouldn't do that.
>Okay it's a walking simulator. And that's a good thing. Americans are great fans of first-person shooters and Death Stranding isn't one, it flies higher.

I dunno bout you but I stopped to clear every Mule camp and BT infestation along the way to making my ideal delivery routes. I thought that stuff was fun.

somehow it's both a walking sim and not.
It's got in depth traversal mechanics but
>you're constantly interrupted by cutscenes
>walking mechanics are trivialized as you progress and build stuff (then it becomes a way more boring driving simulator)
I'd love for an indie dev to make a strand-like that's just focused on the walking, and where the game gets harder as you progress like a normal game instead of putting you to sleep.

Either is or isn't. You can't call COD not a shooting game because sometimes you're walking, running, or watching some cut scene.
Emphasis on walking = walking simulator

>It's got in depth traversal mechanics
Hold the trigger buttons to balance
Vehicles don't require balance
Auto arrange cargo

>walking mechanics are trivialized as you progress and build stuff (then it becomes a way more boring driving simulator)
Totally agree

Yeah it needs to be way more difficult. Like a wilderness survival I reckon.

NTA, but it's completely wrong to say a game has to be absolutely one genre. Cod isn't a walking sim because the walking is mechanically beneficial to the gunplay, same as DS.
Walking sims are purely walking to get to one place. It's like a museum tour versus a paintball match. Myst has never been attributed as a walking sim for this exact same reason too

Reminder that it's always morally correct to make fun of people who complain about "mandatory" or "forced" gameplay sections.
