Oh boys that's the opposite,
The timeloop is at the core of the main mystery, the mechanics as planet shapes evolve through time and the themes of the game.
You discover that any civilization can die, even the universe will end, and you have to accept it to move forward in the name of discovering what lie beyond.

They made a DLC that give a whole new mystery-plot around the concept of the Black forest hypothesis (here made literal).

>why they don't bother with sequels
If you actually understand the game, you understand why it cannot have a "sequel". If they only care about tech-demo they would have, but there's more to this game than that.
The mysteries and linked stories in this game is more sophisticated than the average indy-studio.

It was alright, nice atmosphere. I'd put it on-par with the quantum moon sidequest from the base game, which is what it kinda is, just a second sidequest with about the same payoff.
My beef with it is that the worst puzzles in the base game involve waiting out the clock, and that's like every puzzle in the DLC.

It COULD have made sense.
The DLC added new content to a story that was already enough on its own.
But it never solved the mystery of the Interlooper.

It would have been a good enough occasion to deal with the concept of aliens on an outer plane of existence, especially since we already have the Dark Bramble.

Like imagine:
>Dark bramble is small from the outside, near-infinite from the inside
>find a Nomai device that let you warp one-way into alternate space with your spaceship
>rediscovers the solar system as seen from warp-space

It's more about the difficulty of rare NPC.
Especially since you are supposed to discovers a trick to see better in the dark before facing them.

The other NPC (the giant fish) actually profit from the "reduced frights" because you get a lot more time trying to escape them.
(the intended way to avoid them don't even involve maneuvering non-stop, just smart)

I disagree, that's like saying the Nomai only saw the eye for a small lapse of time because the eye was hiding (or hard to detect)
The DLC changed that interpretation.
The interlooper could very easily be an alien species from the warp who didn't know their colony-seed killed the Nomai.

That's a stretch to presume it had a will.
A more likely hypothesis is that only being able to reach it at the end is a mysterious thing that just happen as if it was a law. Like: Alt-universe, reach the eye, be joined by other civilizations, debate what to do with it until the end of the universe then the last person alive accidentally trip and get inside.
