I recently played all 3d gta games and this is what I think of them

>GTA3 is pretty dated nowadays and the story is just background noise for the player to do whatever. The ost is alright but the atmosphere is top tier. Probably the only gta game who has just gritty vibes.
>vice city is just as dated but the voice acting and ost carries it hard. The story is just one huge homage to crime movies as a whole.
>San andreas improves everything from the previous games and adds a bunch of content, I guess they wanted to see how much they could add into a single disc. Not everything lands but it is a top tier game to this day even though the story gets a little boring after you leave los santos
>vice city stories is pretty alright, it is cool to use bikes in liberty city and has gameplay similar to san andreas but at the same time the city doesn't have the same vibes as gta3 does which is a huge letdown, the radio stations are very unremarkable but I do like the extra costumes
>vice city stories empire minigames are ok but some missions were clearly not very well tested and you kind have to cheese them somewhat. also vic vance is a terrible protagonist. I would have preferred to play either as lance vance or some other third party like the danny trejo character or something
>GTA 4 is pretty fucking good and I love the homies but I am not too kin on the driving. the game also takes too long to get going but it is one of the best games in the series. I also like that the cops have a search area so the driving + finding a way to get out of it is top tier fun
>the lost and dammed could have been a great expansions but it is too short and the new weapons they added are not that great. the bikes are indeed cool though

>china town wars was great fun and I wish they also remade the firs 3 2d era gta games on the same engine but i guess it sold too poorly. the drug dealing and th arcade gameplay feel great but the story is very predictable and you already know the twist as soon as you start the game.

4 is literally the worst installment of them all. The story is inhumanly boring with a disconnected and disgustingly bad cast.
It has no customisation elements whatsoever, no free roam activities, absolutely useless currency system. It was the testbed for V's ragdoll system and that's it.

GTA IV and SA have the absolute best story out of all GTA games, IV has THE BEST driving that filtered a ton of you retards apparently

V is one of the worst installments but has the best gameplay experience next to IV, also V has THE WORST most arcadey fucking driving
III and VC are alright, amazing for their time, but playing them now is just not a good feeling

It just has very boring missions, that's it's biggest problem. In San Andreas or 5 you want to see what's next, most missions have different sections and fun twists. In 4 it's all "go there, shoot a nigga, get away from cops and go home".

Swap gta VCS with gta3 and you are golden. I know GTA V gets a lot of shit here, but its has one very polished and fun campaign. Gta IV is the peak of gta games, but you need an acquired taste in order to fully appreciate this game
