I ACTUALLY do OWN over a 1000 game licences on steam. These licences will give me access to these games for a much longer time than your physical copies (which also require activation through a licence) will give you.

physical copies last as long as the physical object does, if your CD gets scratched or your house burns down you lose it.
digital copies last as long as steam servers are up + as long as your backups last (which you can copy in case something happens to your drive) and you can play with the offline stream in case steam goes down.

imagine having the amount of money and free time that you can pull all this shit up, and get others to participate too, from other countries apparently, just for your fucking birthday party.
on my last birthday I went to a pizzeria with 3 or 4 friends that live near here, we didn't stay long because we all had to work the next day.

I know a lot of peoples here's definition of 'own' requires that they be able to sell the game if they wish, which obviously Steam doesn't facilitate at all

For me 'own' just means knowing that I can be confident for the rest of my life that I will have playable access to it, which for a Steam game just requires that its possible to backup and possibly crack.

Indeed so long as there's a copy on your flash drive or external hard drive and your computer can run the exe or flatpak you own those games this applys to emulators as well

To answer that question accurately, I'd have to go through my installed games and figure out how many of them can run without opening Steam and how many of them can run in emulators or source ports. I'm too lazy to do that, but the answer is at least 10 (Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood).
>b-b-but the LOICENSE AGREEMENT doesn't say that you can run those games outside of the Steam client!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't care. If they didn't want me to access the files directly then they should have encrypted them. Every game that doesn't open Steam upon double-clicking the executable, every game that runs in DOSBox, every game that can run in ScummVM, and every game with a source port is mine forever if I back it up. Limitations which cannot be enforced are not worth discussing.
