Fallout 3 is especially bad in the writing department. Those interviews where Bethesda talked about how silly everything was really shines through during most quests. They improved a bit in Fallout 4, I think.

I can't really explain it but 10 years ago I had a hard time replaying this game, I just didn't feel like booting it up at all but this spring I really liked it. I think maybe because I spent a lot of time just roaming under DC in the metro system and I liked that part and I also did some side quests I'd never done before but I dunno for sure. Fawkes still a cunt though.

BGSM resents BGSA and they have hostile relations. If zenimax even threatened to outsource it to them they would protest by resigning. But it won't come to that. Zenimax has a deep working relationship with Bethesda and understands their inbred culture especially with regard to BGSM.

Most of fnv key designers were fired since they failed to get the bonus clause in the contract that demanded 85 metacritic score. So obsidian made zero cents of profit from fnv as they never got honoraries from its sales. Base contract only covered development costs.

All the brains were available, like gonzales, and talent like avellone would have gladly jumped ship to work on some more fallout. It all came down to egos in zenimax and bethesda opposing it vehemently

>>713361241
>caravan lanes
actually don't exist, believe me i wish we could get some crazy wolfgang action but they're just a random friendly spawn added to the list of random spawns.
>settlement attacks
are just a random spawn with a bunch of nagging, they're completely broken and pointless anyway since things repair themselves.
>settllement happiness
purely for nagging, not mechanical
>Settlement shopkeepers
i'll admit the hunting of the secret high level merchants is a bit of fun but their stock isn't particularly special either. there's not a whole lot of item variety in fo4.
>food/water
more nagging mechanic, not even a half decent cooking system or anything to match skyrim dlcs that already fucking exist. not even a significant survival aspect to match FNV. why can't they copy anything well?
>resources
the "resource exists" feature is not inherently a game mechanic
>artillery
too broken and useless

you can produce junk and things you can buy except you don't buy things. you can potentially build shitty machines to vaguely automate producing ammo or you can automate selling garbage to buy ammo. everything about it is not merely optional but actively useless mechanically in-game, it's solely to waste your time between fights. its a nice little building system and mods make it a lot better but it's not deep or useful.

this was before obsidian knocked it out of the park with FONV, i have no idea if todd really is that petty but there was that QA interview that paints a picture of BGSM being viciously over protective of their IP. maybe they were being nice with obsidian since they are developers of some renown, not so much for BGSA who had not proven themselves in any capacity whatsoever so i find it believable that BGSM would be seething about them being pressured into making fo76 and them externalizing it by taking it out on BGSA staff

Unironically this, the settlement system is hot trash without mods, and even the one that does the most for it, Sim Settlements 2, is severely capped by the fact the game can barely keep up if you build too much between Sanctuary, Red Rocket and Abernathy Farm

Really isn't any point anymore. Not because I think Obsidian is bad now, in fact I think they're solidly at the same level as BeS, just different strengths and weaknesses.

But because both are under microsoft and the talent BeS actually needs from obisdian, like people who know how to design guns or write characters, like Sawyer, have no reason to leave one microsoft studio for another microsoft studio

A big part of it is that there hasn't been a proper follow up to NV (or even 3 for that matter) in the 15 years since its release. 4 and 76 are so radically different from everything that came before they might as well be in a different genre.
