Because phones want to break so you buy a new one, Nintendo wants their hardware to be reliable, so yes they will hold back OLED trash until you will be just a few years out from the switch 3 and will have a new console before it burns in

If I cared about playing games, I'd go for non-oled. They look better initially, but they do get burn-in from cumulative life reduction and fairly quickly. Hell there's even a youtuber who debunking that - proved it... except his point was - "no one would ever dare use a switch for 3000 hours... so it's basically impossible... and besides, even if it did, which is does... I barely notice it... and even if I notice it, I wouldn't RMA for nintenbucks I paid, and even if I wanted too I love Nintendo too much to literally discuss objective reality about the device and what's going on. Now I have to go draw pictures of Mario fucking my ass."

>reliable
Unlike the joycons with drift, of the DS with hinges breaking, or screen ghosting, or the wiimotes that constantly decalibrated if you dared to use them like a functional person, or the switch which isn't using USB standards and will brick after burning out it's charging system because of improper specs on Nintendos part. Or Switch's failure to utilize bluetooth properly. Or the Switche dock scraping it's screen so you need to mod it to not ruin it. Also let's make it a heat trap like morons. Also let's make the audio jack so fucking noisy it's unusable. Let's also not implement proper basic mouse/keyboard on USB for games. Also, on Wii let's make sure the bluetooth freq interferes with itself because of it's placement as well. Let's also destroy five consoles multiplayer capability by requiring Nintendo WFC and take that down. Also, when we have it, let's not functionally do anything about cheats or people bricking games.

Reliability is not the word I'd use to describe Nintendo in any way - beyond reliably fucking up whatever they touch.

To be fair. The switch isn't "a mobile device", it is.... but it is... you know... their console offering. It's both. It's not the new DS. It's more like coming out with a Sega Nomad out of the gate. It IS their console.

The $450 console is whatever especially since they hold value well. It's the $80+ games that are a scam.

It also doesn't include a fucking charger outside the dock and since it's NOT USB compatible... it's kinda meant to stay near the damn dock, not be brought about and utilized on the go and charged where you're at like every console in the world previously. The dock is for practical purposes a proprietary wall plug for the thing in reality.

Then it wasn't, Vita 2000 had an LCD screen. Looked pretty similar to the OLED screen if you cranked up the saturation in homebrew tools, and also wouldn't burn-in on you. Did you know the Vita 1000 also had hall-effect analog sticks?

Switch 1 OLED had overall a better battery life since the brightness of the screen itself was higher by default, resulting in setting the brightness slider to lower levels.
It's my sole issue with Switch 2, but it's frankly hard to go back on the Switch 1 OLED due of the massive improvements in-game from the backwards compatibility

This is not a fair comparison because this game doesn't have a switch 2 version, so the resolution is the same but the screen size is a lot bigger, stretching out the image and producing worse quality. Compare a game with a switch 2 version.

The craziest thing is that the Switch 2's LCD screen is WORSE than the Switch 1's LCD screen released in 2017 with 2009 technology or so. How did they manage that? Don't ask me...
And the Switch 1's LCD screen isn't good to begin with. It's not exactly a screen designed with gaming in mind, so any modern LCD TV/monitor will probably give you less input lag than the Switch 1 handheld mode.

The contrast isn't gonna be as good as an OLED but you should always do a fair comparison and this isn't one. You're running the same resolution game on a bigger screen, of course it's gonna look worse. Compare a game with a switch 2 version like Mario Odyssey or Echoes of Wisdom.

Motion clarity is one of the most important things in video games, so much so that in the early days of LCDs, they were only used for office work because the images left trails on the screen, making video games disgusting to look at and play.
Nintendo sacrificed the motion clarity of the Switch 2 screen for who knows what reason. Maybe they were trying to make an image with vivid colors comparable to the Switch 1 OLED or something, so as not to generate negative comparisons? That could explain it. They may have sacrificed motion clarity in order to achieve a more attractive image.

displaying stuff oled hdr on OLED is a bit difficult for your lcd screen, unless you lower the overall brightness to match sdr thus lowering the comparison to be dimmer as well.

it absolutely is, just like hall effect joysticks. there's no such thing as an OLED of the size of the Switch 2 screen, with a refreshrate of 120hz, with that level of durability. you have to whack the screen 50 times with a wrench to shatter the Switch 2 screen.

ironically despite all the complaining people did about failing hinges, across my ds phat, o3dsxl, and n2dsxl, none of them ever had a hinge failure and the only thing to ever break was the thumbstick on my o3dsxl (horse racing in oot was what finally broke it)
