The only good thing about (some) WEGs is they lean into player agency and freedom of choice. It's mostly just a western game thing in general.
Japanese h-games don't really fuck with player choice. Even when they do, the choices are more of a "do you want to eat lunch at a table or on the roof today" sort of deal where two routes branch from a choice without the choice actually having to do with anything.
