Whenever I see this guy, I just wanna punch this motherfucker. This sissy shorts wearing, fucking bat-faced, Leonardo DiCaprio looking jackoff, fuck this guy. Fuck him and his leather lederhosen. I hate his fucking faggy Meg Ryan hair. I hate his smug fucking hideous Arch Hall Jr. face. I hate his stupid, girly, banana colored half-vest. I hate his stupid, squeaky, nasal fucking voice. And every fucking time he opens his big fucking mouth I just wanna stab him in the throat with an ice pick just to watch him die! I HATE HIM! I HATE YOU! I HATE THIS GAME AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Players (particularly Japanese ones) complained to Square about Tidus because they couldn't relate to a cool, popular athlete as a main character. He was literally too much of a chad. Which is why they made Vaan a loser nobody in FF12, so that loser nobody players can "relate" to the protag

For me it's not so much the Dream part that hits me. It's about how the roles end up switching. Because now it's Tidus making the sacrifice and Yuna being forced to watch. But there's still growth because rather than Yuna sacrificing herself because she's supposed to for a false hope to a world that kind of doesn't care, it's Tidus sacrificing himself because he wants to find Yuna who means everything to him real hope. It's fucking great despite the fantastical premise that explains it

Guy basically went mental on twitter, self diagnosed with basically every mental illness you could have, couldn't deliver on any of his patreon promises, completely abandoned his website and basically stopped doing reviews of any sorts. Last I heard of him he was doing livestreams with barely any viewers and getting angry at people in chat. Even a few years ago, his patreon money was almost completely gone so I would assume it is even worse now. Last I checked his website was completely broken and I think it is completely gone by now.

>Tidus: Huh?
>Yuna: I mean, they’ve been fighting alongside us this whole time, but now they say they’ll help?
>Tidus: I guess so…
>Yuna: Wait! Sin is reborn when Yu Yevon merges with an aeon, isn’t that right? If I summon an aeon, Yu Yevon will join with it. But at first, it’ll be small, won’t it?
>Tidus: Yeah… Then, we might be able to beat it without the Final Summoning.
>Yuna: I don’t know. What if Yu Yevon jumps again?
>Tidus: Then we’ll take it down again! We’ll fight him until there’s no place left to run!
>Yuna: I never thought it would come down to this.
>Tidus: Yeah, I know. Hey, the fayth, they’re tired of this whole thing, too. Let’s let them rest.
>Yuna: The fayth said it’s pointless to keep dreaming. The dream will disappear, he said. What did he mean? And what is it that Yu Yevon is summoning from within Sin?
>Tidus: The dream of the fayth.
>Yuna: You won’t…go away, will you?

2 strategies can beat every story boss in FFX if you ever get stuck: Getting all your aeon overdrives ready before a fight and then using them all or using one of the more busted Rikku mixes like the one that causes all damage to be 9999 for the whole party in combination with stuff like Tidus Slice and Dice or Attack Reels if you have it.

The Dreams of the Fayth are effectively Pyrefly constructs. Summoners will call for an Aeon and the Fayth in turn will construct it. They're only real for as long as the Fayth continues to dream them up or they're destroyed. No one cares if it's something like Valefor or Bahamut who will show up, blow shit up, and then are dismissed.

But the problem is that Dream Zanarkand, and all of its inhabitants, have been continuously summoned by Yu Yevon from inside Sin for 1000 fucking years. Not even the Fayth who are supporting this shit want to continue

>Fayth: The dreams of the fayth summoned the memories of the city. They summoned all the buildings, all the people who lived there.
>Tidus: The people… What, they’re all dreams? Me, too?
>Fayth: Yes, you’re a dream of the fayth. You, your father, your mother, everyone. All dreams. And if the fayth stop dreaming…
>[Zanarkand vanishes; all that’s left is melted bits of dock and houseboat]
>Tidus: No!
>Tidus: So what if I’m a dream! I…I like being here.
>Fayth: We’ve been dreaming so long…we’re tired. Would you and your father… Would you let us rest? Both you and your father have been touched by Sin. Sin, the one around whom all Spira–the spiral–revolves.

Yu Yevon is both calling Dream Zanarkand and making Sin to protect it. You can stop him from doing one without doing the other. Which means to stop him from remaking Sin, you have to kill him. Which means stopping him from summoning Dream Zanarkand, which means Tidus will fade away

>Auron: Sin is Jecht.
>Tidus: Yeah, for a while there, I thought I could feel him. But that doesn’t mean I believe you.
>Auron: Sin is Jecht. He came here for you.
>Tidus: So he killed all those people just for a chance to see me?
>Auron: That’s what Sin does. He wanted to show that to you. Do you know why?
>Tidus: How am I supposed to know?
>Auron: So you would kill him. As long as he is Sin, Jecht will keep killing. He wants you to stop him.

>[Tidus, emerging from the dome, finds Sin waiting outside. It’s dawn.]
>Tidus: Dad? I know. The Final Summoning’s gone. But I’ll think of something! Just give me a little more time!

>Jecht: I can’t hear the Hymn so well anymore. Pretty soon, I’m gonna be Sin. Completely. I’m glad you’re here now. One thing, though… When it starts, I won’t be myself anymore. I won’t be able to hold myself back. I’m sorry.

>Auron: Ten years ago…I honored Jecht’s last words, and travelled to Zanarkand. I planned to stay there, watching over you. But when Sin attacked Zanarkand that day, I changed my mind. Outside the dream world, life can be harsh—even cruel. But it is life. He wanted you to have a shot at life. I saw it in Sin’s eyes. That’s why I brought you here, to Spira.

Jecht is Sin which means he has at least one hand on the stick. He can control himself up to a point. But he's losing his grip. So he showed up to Zanarkand, against his prime directive. Auron even asks Jecht if he's sure he wants to take Tidus from Zanarkand before they both agree. Right here at 20 seconds

Zanarkand was the Summoner city, Yu Yevon was the leader of it. The Fayth are his followers who willingly turned to stone to make Aeons. Sin is just a really big Aeon. The modern ones are made to 'combat' Sin, but secretly just used to feed it. Because Yevon is built on lying to everyone beneath the very top brass about what they're really doing.

Just like real life

What? Did you play the game?

Okay here's the abridged version of the lead up to FFX. Fayth were always a thing. Summoners were always a thing. It's just a fact of their world. Machina were always a thing too and Zanarkand was called "the machina city."

Zanarkand and Bevelle went to war. And while Zanarkand fielded Summoners to defend themselves, Bevelle fielded extremely advanced machina. And Zanarkand was losing. Hard. So hard that Yu Yevon was concerned that Zanarkand was going to be wiped off the map. Yu Yevon loved his city and refused to let it die. So they collectively did 3 things

1: the populace of Zanarkand marched up to Mt Gagazet, singing what would be called the Hymn of the Fayth. There they sacrificed their bodies to become Fayth for Yu Yevon to use
2. Yu Yevon used Zanarkand's Fayth to construct a Dream copy of Zanarkand from the memories of the populace. This Zanarkand was constructed deep out at sea where no one could find it
3. Yu Yevon used a massive amount of Pyreflies to construct armor to defend Dream Zanarkand and himself. A monster so unthinkably powerful that no one could ever stop it. This would later be called Sin

Sin was supposed to target machina aka Bevelle's forces. But the strain of creating Sin made him lose his fucking mind, so now Sin attacks anything it encounters. Hence Spira as we know it

They should make a story where after one of the summoners becomes sin, he realizes how shit the whole system is and decides to crash it or he tries to kill off some city he didn't like. IE he goes straight for Bevelle, but since he's still a baby Sin he gets his shit pushed in.

FFX is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. The story is good, the world is intriguing, the characters vary but the good ones are extremely great, and the music is top notch. That said, I never really got emotional about this game, and I'm a huge crybaby that cries at the dumbest shit. So seeing people cry at the ending like lil' sissies just feels very foreign to me. The franchise has much bigger tearjerkers than FFX, that ends pretty happily overall.

it's weird how his character evolved in design
initially he was the white mage
then later in development he became a dickass thief who insinuated himself into the party to hide from the empire
then finally he loses all that just to be a mostly bland player insert whose soldier brother is about 5 times more interesting just from the two scenes we got with him

the part where he's running through the streets yelling about Basch exists specifically because Basch was supposed to be the MC

Yuna's final speech was moving.
>"The people and the friends that we have lost, or the dreams that have faded..."
>Bunch of cutscenes from the game start playing.
>"Never forget them."
>Black screen with a single pyrefly floating across the screen.
That shit was cinema. I can't say it brought me to tears, but it was powerful and made me appreciate Yuna's growth and the overall journey the characters have been through the game.

I guess it helps that I never saw Tidus and Yuna as some sort of destined soulmates or that their relationship was some sort of a love story for the ages. It made sense, it gave both characters some extra depth, it added just enough spice and tension into the story and their character arcs and it ended when it needed to. So while Yuna is heartbroken surely, I can't truly be that sad because it wasn't ever THAT deep and I don't think the game ever focused on their love so much that it felt more important than Tidus' quest to beat Jecht and Yuna's quest to save Spira. And that was a good thing.

You know I never actually gave it that much thought, but I agree wholeheartedly. I'd normally be pissed that their romance didn't go too far in either direction, but that fact worked out somehow. Romance is incredibly difficult to weave into a story without hampering individual character growth, so they likely did it the best way possible. And I say all this as a shipfag.

>>713413395
I think I actually teared up a bit at Tidus's and Jecht's final encounter in Dissida of all things. That's how much more moving their story is.
