Why do people say console gaming is cheaper than PC when you still have to pay 80$ a year just to play your own games.

Console is cheap upfront but you pay more long term. PC is the opposite, high upfront cost but cheap long term value.

the kind of idiots that say PC gaming is expensive are the kind of people that think you need to rebuild your entire PC from scratch with top of the line parts every month

Paying a few bucks a month to gatekeep out third worlders and hackers is a great deal

PC fats dont value their time so they are ok with wasting hours fighting hackers to save a few bucks

Lots of console games are crossplay with PC now so the cheating argument is dumb. You have cheaters in Helldivers 2 on PS5 and Sony doesn't care.

>get to enjoy some great new and classic games for under half the price of building a pc
this, of course, makes the pc vegan seethe uncontrollably, causing him to make hourly threads about how nintendo is literally satan and is killing the industry. definitely putting that rig to good use by crying endlessly on 4chan instead of actually playing video games

The price you pay in electricity on console far off sets the sub price, with how much power you waste with PC You guys (well your parents) are easily paying an extra $100 a month compared to console households.

And most Nintendo first party games are like a 20 hours experience at best.
Iv played single games for more than 200 hours.

I played more than 10 games already on my steam backlog on my 300$ used gaming laptop that i got like 4 months ago.
Right now i am playing Disco Elysium, God Eater 3 and Guild wars 2 on it.
And i have a Switch but its so limiting as all it does is play games and usually at worse graphics and frame-rate and the screen is tiny.

Consoles can play a select number of titles.
PC gets to play 99.99% of all games ever made.

This is a no brainier.

Just look at the top 10 list of games for people who game on PC and compare that to literally copy pasted top 10 lists for people who game on consoles.

IF you emulate games you are just pretending to play games.
If only counts if its on real hardware.

Yea in rare cases where you are a SP only gamer consoles win out.
I personally play many online games wile also enjoying SP titles.

In the last month i finished Ghost of Tsushima and Disco elisium God Eater 3 and Broken Sword 4
While also playing ER Nigh-reign, Forza Horizon 5 Gran-blue Versus rising, SFVI, and Guild wars 2.
All on my PC. Id have to pay the online tax just to play Nighreign and Gran-blue online and i could not play Forza and Guild Wars on a console.

I did the math a while back and came to the conclusion that over the course of a console cycle a hardcore gaymer is paying about the same on console vs PC.
But of course, the hardware is a lot cheaper so it's enticing in that way. I already had a basic desktop for indies and visual novels so for me it made sense to get a console.

And let's not forget about casuals. There are people who legit only play a couple of video games, and that's it. And those games might even be f2p (so, don't need the subscription). If you're that kind of gaymer playing on console is infinitely cheaper than PC.

because it used to be true back in the days where even 1st party games would get a "best sellers" re-release for less than half the original price and used games were often even cheaper not all that long after release.

I could not give up on my ability to mod games mind you i don't mod hard i mostly just like mods that disable ugly filters and restore color to games.
Occasionally i use QOL mods. Or mods that let me skip mandatory grind in some SP titles.
And almost always mods that improve performance.
I also often used Speed up mods for turn based JRPGs or games whit a lot of backtracking for instance like Persona 5 or Yakuza Like a dragon.

Playing a game on consoles feels so limiting like i am not playing my own game but rather i am just playing a limited curated experience of a game and i have no control over it.

the payment isn't gatekeeping anyone. it's the platform itself. Up front cost and the monthly payment in MMOs doesn't stop thirdies, bots and cheaters from flooding them. Consoles lack the same range of dedicated programmers making cheat clients. Those are widely way more available on PC since it's much easier to develop them there, and much easier spoof things on a hardware level that's so undetectable that people (mostly Jeets/Russians/Chinese/Sea niggas) are willing to pay monthly payments for those cheat clients. Payments never filter any of these fucks willing to shit up a platform, it's always about the ease of access to what they're looking to do.

Every single online game you've ever enjoyed in your entire life was during its first couple of years when players are still figuring things out and fucking around.
Eventually the gameplay gets streamlined, meta builds are posted on YouTube, and all the soul and fun is sucked out while sweaties take over.
So when you tell me the skill level is lower on consoles, you're telling me it's more fun because it isn't full of tryhards.
