As I already stated:
Okay, I’ll say it:
> The characters in this game are incredibly flat and one-dimensional.
> The biomes all look the same.
> The combat system is entirely based on parrying, nothing else matters.
> With the revelation in the third act, nothing makes sense anymore, everything is fake, all the neglected side quests lose their meaning, and the entire game suffers for it.
> The characters recover from the trauma of the third act’s revelation in one minute… realistically, they should’ve gone mad. That’s why I say they’re superficial at best.

The location you've already explored have their names on the map, the ones you've located but not explored yet just appear on the map but not named. Very difficult location are red and have danger written below their names. But I agree a quest journal wouldn't be unwelcome.

>>713383494
I think most everyone got "good enough" at parrying and didn't have to worry about buffing defense too much, since if you're not an ultra casual, you probably trivialized the combat's difficulty by the time you get to the final boss. Simon is the filter - either you got-gud and beat him with parries, or you said "screw it" and cheesed with gommage/stendhal. Guys like the one in the video are definitely the outlier.

The game is a love letter to JRPGs, especially FF7/8/9 which had a very definite point where the story would stop before you went to the final boss area and let you explore the world and do side quests to get OP, which is just what Act 3 is. They just used an Act structure because swapping discs is no longer a thing. FFVII started disc 3 exactly the same way.

That's absolute bullshit. Lune was my MVP in melting Simon. And though I didn't end up using him, Monoco's big bell attack is super fucking busted.
And Sciel has the instant-turn skills and can delay the opponent's turns while also giving the whole team super-rush and all enemies super-freeze. While building up potentially infinite damage scaling in the process.

Maelle and Verso are busted yeah. But you're really underselling the other three.

The Twilight damage modifier scales infinitely with how many Sun or Moon tokens you stacked before you entered Twilight.
But she also has that gradient attack that becomes more powerful the more foretell you've applied during the course of the entire fight. And that also scales without limit. And these modifiers also stack, so you can hit pretty damn hard to say the least.

They clearly took some content that was crucial to the story and made it optional because of gamers (rightfully) complaining about games being too long and bloated. If you don't do any optional content the game is like, I dunno, 30 hours long. If you do it all it is more like 60-70.

Anon you 5 point lumina that removes that cap immediately after you beat the paintress
If anything, the damage scaling is kinda fucked, considering most things will kill you in a single hit even at 99 defense unless you stack defense pictos on top.
It effectively makes all healing skills, items, and the defense stat itself worthless.

As soon as esquie can swim you can engage in some good ole CBT and fight the sprong (stick man thing walking around in the water) massively underleveled, and without the damage cap removed.
But if you do manage to beat him you get the cheater picto and can absolutely rape most content up to the paintress with you combine it with speed stacking.

Glad someone notes that the parry/dodge mechanic ruins the game in the long run. It being the ONLY way to avoid damage makes ALL late game fights the same. You don’t have ANY interesting gimmicky RPG fights at all anymore in the end game. It’s ALL about avoiding nearly every attack,or making a broken build.

Welcome to literally every RPG. Remember when you spent weeks and weeks going through all the fun, engaging, challenging side missions in Skyrim and then had to go back to the fucking weak ass, boring ass, bitch ass Civil War/Alduin plot?

>jrpg combat
Pick one. Because even this basic parry and dodge system is far more dynamic and engaging than any passive turn-based jrpg you can think of.

This. I loathe Maellefags so much it’s unreal. I loathe how act 3 LITERALLY makes her into a different character. She goes from angsty and depressed to a completely spoiled and utterly rotten and hypocritical giga cunt. It’s hilarious too maellefags kvetch about”oh everyone was actually real tho” and “muh verso is a liar and let gustave die”,while she killed the other Alicia without letting verso say goodbye. Highlighting that she is also incredibly selfish and hypocritical. She makes note at the end too her family doesn’t matter(especially Renoir and verso)it’s about HER

Three sentences is too much for a non-white person? I get it. You probably put those words together letter by letter like someone just learning to read? 4k and 8k, Jordan, Apple are much easier. No wonder so many of your kind like this crap.

It's an homage to Final Fantasy where the game only opens up when when the final boss becomes active.

Such an insanely low bar in today's shitty game industry that any half-decent artsy game can clear it with critical praise.

Sciel shows that when people are brought back they are still themselves and not just copies in the image of the original. Also she's great.

This is true and the story betrays its own premise halfway through. The Dessendre family drama takes over and it goes from an odyssey style story where the legacies and sacrifices of those that came before you paved the way forward to a netflix chickslop show. Exploring the world becomes tedious and uninteresting. Scielle and Lune become completely irrelevant, they're literally betrayed by Verso who aimed to genocide their people and throw their sacrifices into the dirt, do one trauma dump, and then fuck him. The narrative treats everyone outside of the painters as fake, so why should you care? And since I didn't give a rat's ass about the Dessendres and their comically stupid tragedy (really? Their son got smoke by their enemies the fuckjng Writers? And the plot is mommy dearest is playing the equivalent of Sims to cope? Fucking lmao). Everything is too childish and immature for me to take seriously. Either the people of the canvas are real and the Dessendres immature and downright evil stupid gods, or nothing is real and fucking matters, in which case the story hinges on how much you care about a clinically stupid, disfunctional, French family.

Exactly, it’s like the devs forgot halfway through that variety is what keeps RPGs fresh. Every boss turns into a Souls-lite reaction test and completely ignores the setup from the first half of the game. No more puzzle fights, no more clever scripting, just i-frame baiting and rolling for your life. Might as well swap your spellbook for a dodgeball.

This is the correct take, that's why erasing real innocent people because of their petty family squabbles is fucked up.
