Because the writers wanted to get rid of the moral ambiguity of Avalanche and save Jessie from being the retard that killed innocent people.

In the context of the story, he did it as a false flag to make the every day citizen hostile to Avalanche.

Ohh, I've never played the original since I had been spoiled to death on it over the last decade and fourth. Talk about a cop-out of giving characters flaws, granted Jessie still thinks she is responsible in the remake.

So Shinra never blew up their own Reactor in the original. What they did was blow up Sector 7

>Reeve
>We have the damage estimates for Sector 7.
>Considering those factories we already set up and all the investments, the damage is estimated at approximately 10 Billion gil...
>The estimated cost to rebuild Sector 7 is...

>President Shinra
>We're not rebuilding.

>Reeve
>What?

>President Shinra
>We're leaving Sector 7 as it is.
>And restarting the Neo-Midgar plan.

>Reeve
>...then the Ancients?

>President Shinra
>The Promised Land will soon be ours.
>I want you to raise the Mako rates 15% in every area.

>Palmer
>Rate hike! Rate hike! Tra, la, la! And please include our Space Program in the budget!

>President Shinra
>Reeve and Scarlet will divide the extra income from the rate increase.

>Palmer
>Oh man!

>Reeve
>Sir. If you raise the rates, the people will lose confidence...

>President Shinra
>It'll be all right.
>The ignorant citizens won't lose confidence, they'll trust Shinra, Inc. even more.

>Heidegger
>Ha ha ha!
>After all, we're the ones who saved Sector 7 from AVALANCHE!

>Barret
>That dirty #$*$^

In the OG the Reactor Bombings were 100% Avalanche. The logic that Shinra blew up their own Reactor comes from one line of dialogue in the OG that doesn't make any sense. After blowing up 2 Reactor, Shinra got sick of Avalanche's shit and blew up the Sector 7 plate to crush Avalanche. Since Avalanche had already blew up 2 Reactors, it was easy to blame them and then use them to raise taxes for Neo-Midgar.

You get implications of it here >>713385551. Shinra provides 100% of Midgar's electricity. They probably do the same in every location where they have a Reactor. And because they have a monopoly on power, electrical but also military, they can charge whatever they want. And make up any excuse they want. In Corel they built the Reactor but after the Reactor was damaged, Shinra burned Corel to the ground and built Gold Saucer on top of it. Junon was originally a fishing village but when Shinra built the upper city on top of it, Junon became a military city while the people on lower Junon got fucked. The sludge and waste from the upper city destroyed the fishing industry. Shinra didn't care.

Shinra gets to be a global power because any competition is too small (Domino and Wutai) or too dead (Gongaga) to do anything about it

In the original it's certainly very convenient that a bomb that was meant to only stop the Reactor from pumping Mako instead blows a huge hole in it and kills a bunch of innocent people, and then goes right off the deep end by dropping the Sector 7 plate and blaming it on Avalanche.

If innocent people hadn't died by an exploding reactor, who would possibly believe that Avalanche was so reckless and violent as to drop an entire plate?

That's the point he's making. What was said here >>713383616
>In the context of the story, he did it as a false flag to make the every day citizen hostile to Avalanche.

That's wrong. There wasn't a false flag. Avalanche just blew up the Reactor. Shinra didn't see it coming and tried to stop it. Avalanche was entirely responsible and the only false flag was the dropping off the plate

This post >>713383616 (You) is referencing why the writers changed the reactor explosion into a false flag in the "remake". The remake makes it beyond any doubt a false flag as the bomb doesn't work and then President Shinra has gun turrets fire on the reactor. If the guy is going to call me a retard he should at least achieve basic reading comprehension before hand.

It made the cities that were in OG bigger. For example in Rebirth Gongaga was an optional "blink and you'll miss it" location. As in during my first game when I was 9 years old in 1999 I drove past Gongaga accidentally. In Rebirth, Gongaga is a huge forest area that's now mandatory to visit. Costa Del Sol was like 3 screens if you don't count the inside of houses. In Rebirth, it's a gigantic festival. With minigames and even optional outfits for the cast. Which yes, does include bikinis for the girls.

I prefer Majestic Glamour Tifa over Shining Spirit Tifa but I also know I'm the outlier there
