its funny to me how games like doom and resident evil 4 start up right away with no shader screen or stutter while ff7rebirth is a mess

Oh what's that? You turned TAA off? Enjoy your broken graphics because we rely on TAA to make our game not look like dog vomit.

You guys talk a lot but try actually creating your own engine and using it on your game before giving these remarks.

outsourcing engines was supposed to make game development easier and faster. instead we have games taking 6+ years to release. gta 6 is finally coming out on ps5 when xbox/sony both just pretty much announced ps6/nextxbox.

Shouldn't game engines always be prioritizing speed? Why not compile shaders on a first boot?

falcom is one of the oldest vidya companies in the industry. they have been making games since the 80s. they never grew AAA big like Nintendo or Capcom but still.

All games should compile on first boot. But Unreal Engines material editor system ensures that you will always miss shaders because they generate unique ones in real time.

Progressive shader compilation is a fucking meme that was introduced way back in 2006 with the release of Gears of War 1 and has had disastrous consequences for the video game industry ever since. When Godot 4.5 comes out in a few weeks it will be the first game engine in ALMOST 20 FUCKING YEARS to give game developers the option to precompile shaders again.
