Since Nintendo's in an open world phase, now would be a great time for Smash to get that treatment.

I think Nintendo's got enough beloved characters with cool powers and movement options to make it work. Plus, all of these characters' settings would make for great maps with their own events. Most of the traditional Smash modes should also be translated into 3D perfectly fine.

I give it a maybe. They'd need to totally rework how moves work, but I guess it would at least be interesting to try. I would just hope the gameplay isn't floaty as a way of adapting to the new dimension.

Smash takes place in a very boring place, you can see it on Brawl where is just all generic X unless is from a game, you can see it on smash ult, the map is also boring and the only part that I remember is the Castlevania type map.
They need to work on their original world, I think Smash 64 did it best where the world is just a little room with toys.

You mean Smash run?
Smash does NOT need a new direction or overhaul, it just needs a good feeling base engine with some replayable modes outside of 20 different variations of vs.

All™ they need to do for a good Story Mode is:
>have the exclusive game-themed maps / worlds with ACTUAL Platforming level design of some of Melee's Adventure Mode and a bit of Subspace.
>Mixed with the loose "story" autism of Subspace and maybe Ult's WoL, I guess.
>and finally add light rogue or Search Action / Metroidvania elements for replayability (Spirits, Stickers, Permanent movement abilities, upgrades, ETC), and boom, it's perfect.

Bring back "Platforming" to the "Platform Fighter".

online lobbies but they're like a adventure mode from Brawl and you can run around with other people and play all kinds of minigames. maybe every one can make their own avatar and you go around and do trials / missions in order to unlock abilities from characters in order to get new places in the world kind of like SF6 gay ass world chore mode albeit better.

They really aren't, you're talking out of your ass. If anything, they are underrealized. I could count the best and highest quality ones on one hand.
>nintendo needs to innovate this time around.
How would giving up Smash's unique identity and switching to 3D be innovating? No 3D Arena fighter has had staying power, even really great ones like Power Stone.
Smash's core gameplay would have to be dumbed down and it's philosophy (and main appeal) of simple gameplay would be destroyed with the introduction of a true 3D space.
Bottom line, It simply does not feel as good to combo in free 3D (in most cases).

But, I wouldn't mind being wrong.
