>>713395585There are several reasons, but the heart of it is that copyright rather than benefiting artists has enabled an abuses of consumers due to their psudo-monopoly. Once a developer has fan buy in, they can treat you like shit and you have to take it or abandon the series. Every dumb thing that Disney, Nintendo, Sony, or any other developer has done is enabled by copyright abuses. Failure to preserve media and absurd limited time re-releases? Wouldn't happen without copyright since people wouldn't need the company's permission to get it.
Microtransactions and shitty DLC? Also copyright's fault, nobody would buy horse armor or extra in game currency if they could run modded versions just as easily.
Censorship and bad localization? Also copyright. In a world without copyright, anyone could make a fanpatch restoring the original game then openly market it. It's only because the copyright holder can litigate against people fixing their game that they know they can get away with giving you a watered down version.
Lazy sequels? Also copyright's fault. Why put any effort in when you have exclusive access to characters and settings that will sell anyways because people are desperate for content?
Think about any problem or grievance you have with modern gaming or media in general, and it more likely than not traces back to copyright or another IP law.
