Will we ever get something as pure and wonderful as this again?

I'm sick! I watched these as a kid growing up and as soon as I got old enough to go to these conventions they pulled the rug out from me

What are you talking about? E3 stopped being good around 2010s.

As a tail end millennial I seethe reading accounts of how gen X and older millennial bros would sign up as fake media companies for E3 and actually get laminated press badges and get to play test the games and shit.

You had to be born in 92 or earlier. They stopped being good post 2010. In the 2000s any group of gaming frat bros could pretend to be videogame journalists and get into E3 with press badges and get to play test games.

Was probably a LOT easier back in the day before social media and whatnot. Could just go on SA and meetup with some folks. Now they'd check your info out

Truly a magical time when things like Twitter and social media were still not mainstream

E3 marked the beginning of megacorps taking over vidya and the endless normalfaggot invasion. Good fucking riddance.

eSports did that.
eSports ruined competitive gaming. eSports replaced tournaments being sponsored by ISPs and hardware manufactures with Giant Corpo Slop. And the normies lapped it up as if they couldn't get enough of it.

It also took away just casually being good at a game and being able to compete to having to play 16 hours a day for months just to get good enough to make it on a squad.

The fact that E3 fell apart and vanished is shocking. What sucks is it seems like it was an entirely corporate decision, everyone was hyped for E3 up until the year it stopped. It was replacement by the game awards which is cool but I hate how everything happens at the end of the year now...

E3 was always a corporate affair, a trade show for retailers to order stock of products. It's just the flashy sales pitches and product announcements that made it seem like a gaming mecca.

Video games since the mid 80's have always been a corporate affair. Even more so than movies. What's changed is the corporate landscape. People used to be more concerned about making money rather than faking morality.

They're not. In fact they're worse than the trade shows ever were.
