more stealth games need this shit
in this game you can blast your way out, you can escape and resume stealth, you can larp as a pacifist and end up having to kill someone to defuse a bad situation, shit like that.

meanwhile in other stealth games
>combat is so abysmal/unexistent you may as well not bother with it

Intravenous 2 got a DLC that's basically a port of intravenous 2 with reworked level design, all music tracks redone and a couple new ones added + it gets to benefit from all the additions, new mechanics and tweaks of Intravenous 2 that make it a lot better (even the dev admitted that it's hard to play Intravenous 1 after trying out Intravenous 2, and that probably motivated him to "remaster" the first game in the sequel)

Does it still have the shit AI from the first game where you can just wait a corner and after 30 seconds of their "I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE, YOU'RE NOT TRICKING ME ASSHOLE" spiel they very slowly single file around that corner and get killed

I always felt this was overblown, both games are fundamentally great
With that said
>IV1 has great levels for stealth/mixed playstyles and interesting firefights. But lacks some features and details
>IV2 has a lot of features and fancy stuff. But the levels can be a PITA to stealth and make you feel like just walking up and shooting everybody
>IV1R has the features of IV2 with the map style of IV1R (With some silly aspects improved/fixed)
IV1R is the best of both worlds

What was the last game that did something like this? Intravenous is the only one I can think of that lets you seamlessly drop into and out of stealth and where even in a kill-everyone playthrough being able to manipulate what the enemy can hear and see to get around their back is a key skill.

the main reason i like intravenous so much is specifically because its pretty much the only game like this, and its something i always wanted
ive played a bunch of games that work for mixed stealth-action playstyles, but they all fit one of the following criteria
>loose or perhaps silly, instead of tight and deadly like intravenous, usually with retarded AI (ex : Deus Ex, MGS5, Dishonored)
>great game, but basic and small, simplistic mechanics/goals, notably when it usually boils down to killing everybody (ex : Deadbolt, some HM mods)
>cool game, but a very unfinished/lacking/awkward title
>great and very competent game, but its some very gimmicky/crazy/unique style of gameplay rather than 'traditional' stealth of actually sneaking past people (ex : Deadeye Deepfake)

Indie games to keep on your radar:

I hope there is some interest revived into the genre eventually and that indie can actually save the stealth genre. Here's hoping at least. Shadow + sound meter stealth is always the best kind. Which is why Intravenous was refreshing in the first place.

I want to make a stealth game but I haven't played anything outside of MGS. What games should I play for inspiration?
I already know of and will play (in the following order):
>Hitman
>Splinter Cell (I played Pandora Tomorrow as a kid)
>Thief
The thing is, how I envision stealth games is "stealth is mandatory all the way through, or stealth but if spotted then hide or eliminate all threats" like earlier MGS titles. The issue with this game seems like it allows both stealth and loud just like MGSV as this webm >>713419730 shows which doesn't feel like true stealth but allows more player freedom.

The "stealth" in all these games is a joke and AI is retarded
So in intravenous stealthing and combat is a fun mix because alerted enemies don't give up on you, are perceptive and can give you a challenge

>What games should I play for inspiration?
Depends of what type of game you're planning to make
>3d or 2d
>top down/sidescroller/first person/third person
>timed maps or not
>design it like a puzzle or not
>have envireonment interactions or make it entirely about killing/neutralizing using weapons
Because different stealth games have different game design and approach to stealth. And ideas from one game won't work in the other one.

Gideon and his team being such an afterthought is the big flaw with IV2. Mercenarism introduces him, fleshes him out a bit and even shows off his crew. They are completely absent in IV2 and Gideon is barely used and then can die in an optional mission with no fanfare.

literally impossible. There are so many guards on the map that if you make the slightest noise they will all swarm you at mach 5 speed and will remain alert and have fucked up the entire map for the duration of the mission. Yeah, you get the iconic ones from the merry men like Little John and Friar Tuck, and then you can also train up your own faceless goons who train to get better in your home base between missions who you can bring while your main dudes rest. The gameplay is actually so good when going for stealth and using all your dudes' abilities and those pre-renederd castles maps are just gorgeous.

Since I like it so much I've been thinking I shoukld play other games in the genre, but the western theme of desperados isn't very appealing ot me.

tbf, the fastest IV1 levels are like the slowest HM2 levels, and some sprites were actually lifted directly from HM, despite the dev claiming he never even played it)))))))))))))

A. It visually looks exactly like it
B. The only footage in this thread makes the gameplay look even more frantic.

All I know is that I have no interest in playing this game if this is how actually stupid the fans are.

But you can? If enemies lose track of you while they're on full alert they'll go into searching mode again. It's possible to fire off some shots, then run into the shadows and ambush enemies again from another position. Shooting out lights and turning off the power helps with that.

Focus on story and guns.
HM2 kinda grew on me while playing through Hard mode, but it's still inferior to 1 in every regard, especially level design.
I don't get why the other anon doesn't like it, because it's basically the missing link between HM1 and IV.

I admire how he himself admitted that IV 2 was a much safer deal than IV1 because he had a publisher this time, but still felt the need to make a good sequel not just because he didn't want to disappoint the fans, but because the game was meant to be a tribute to his dad
He put a lot of love into his series and I want to see him make more vidya, he's clearly passionate and talented

The main issue with Dishonored was that all the fun tools and shit were lethal shit whereas your options for nonlethal runs were limited to sneaking up behind dudes to choke them out or hitting them with tranq darts which were somewhat rare/expensive and could only be carried in very small quantities. It probably wouldn't have been as bad if they gave you more shit to play around with for nonlethal runs but no, all the fun shit is lethal so the game basically shits on you for wanting to use fun shit.

I think 3 should have two playable MCs and they are opposed to each other. One is a cop, the other a merc/mobster. I expect more social stealth missions too.

Both playstyles are framed as viable in Dishonored though. Besides you have to kill the overwhelming majority of NPCs in a level to tip the scales into High Chaos.

If anything, I feel a more credible complaint about the game is that itโ€™s too easy. Only the Tall Boys and Assassins can really come close to matching your power level.

Its not the overwhelming majority at all. At best its probably half and at worst its only like 20%. The big theme of the game is power corrupts. The player as Corvo can become corrupted by the power Pierro and the Outsider gives them, to create the high chaos ending.

this, I dunno why they suck off this so hard, you get zero flow state in this game because every engagement is so finnicky and sensitive. If you could basically flow through the levels like in hotline miami but with stealth it would be cool.

It's like this game but worse. Also this game got rid of the non-lethal design which limits your options and just said "lethal is your one option, now go use everything".

I enjoyed Intravenous (1 and Mercenarism, haven't played 2), I posted that because I really just cannot commit to playing stealth.
They give you so many gadgets and environmental items and I just pick heavy armor and the loudest, most lethal gun I can find

Stealth in 1 isn't very good anyways.
You can't even press against the wall behind a corner or door or something and having a square bounding box makes for some very fiddly movement in tight spaces.

Yes. It is pretty fun to go guns blazing

No, but don't expect to shrug off bullet wounds as if you were playing doom. You have like 3 types of wests with different pros and cons
