The search engine is pretty much unusable now. It just gives me whatever retarded popular video the algorithm wants me to see. Not to mention those stupid shorts that are aimed at tik tok zoomers. I'm using Firefox, only once I saw the popup about adblocks not being allowed in Youtube, but I just closed and it hasn't appeared again. Other than that, I have no issues at all watching videos, and streams rarely freeze and it's only a matter of refreshing the tab. I also recently installed ReVanced, so I also have ad-free Youtube on my phone.

Now Twitch remains as the true bitch when it comes to ads, I have tried all of the recommended blockers and plugins but they either keep appearing, or I get the "Ad in progress" screen.

Youtube is great and I've been an avid watcher of it for like 15 years at this point. I don't watch TV, but I do watch youtube.
The trick is just to not be subscribed to utter garbage and to have a variety. Yeah, I like some longer form video essays that release once a month, but I also am subscribed to some guntubers who release content a few times a week, or film reviwers who will talk about big and small films.
I've never once thought of myself as getting my opinions from youtube videos because I am not 12 and autistic. If I watch a video about a game or a movie I have not played/seen it is for entertainment. Sometimes I pause the video to go actually try the game or watch the film and come back later.
