you can't have artistic integrity aka SOVL when there are a lot of people working on a game, what you get at the end is a product for mass consumption. i would argue that the SOVL scale with the number of people taking decisions on every single aspect of the game.
that why rpg maker games, indieslop, vns (and also older aaa game where teams were smaller and more cohesive) are actual art, unlike the algorithm-driven aaaslop that gets pumped out nowadays
as for the answer to op's question
>You have all the time in the world to learn and create. You're on your PC all day. Why aren't you making the next big hit?because i can't. as in don't have the talent to do that. neither do 99% of people. and i would also argue that the world needs less slop and not more, so unless you have a very strong vision/passion and a strong desire to share something with the world, then you shouldn't even attempt making games (also let's be honest, if you were then you would've already be making one)
also i'm not talking about making an asset flip and hoping to get lucky because a streamer picks up your shitty game and you go viral. that's way too risky from a purely business standpoint and, as you can see from OP's post, most people don't know what survivorship bias is
