It's more like modern UI, graphics and models have become so unimaginative and homogenized that games have become increasingly indistinguishable from each other, a modern commonly used engine is merely an easy target for something that's far deeper set in the industry.

UE5 can be as custom as you want but the tools it offers out of the box are used a lot without customization. Unity has a similar sameiness with asset flip games.

A lot of UE5 games leverage the same stock Quixel assets/Nanite/Lumen settings, and the worst offender that I fucking see no one talk about: Meta Humans.
