They always had some sort of big presentation every June. Don't tell me the Donkey Kong one was it. I really miss coming back to /v/ every June to see all the reactions. Now there's no Squilliams, no hype. The State of Play and Xbox thing sucked ass.

I really don't want to, but I also would not be surprised at all. At the very least, if we don't get anything tomorrow, then I'd say we're cooked

They have been for as long as direct have been around until now, June was always a month we could rely on. I think it only skipped one year because of covid retardation

Definitely not guaranteed anymore now that E3's dead. Hell, they weren't even guaranteed when E3 WAS a thing if 2016 was any indication

Pokemon Direct after DK in July. At best August general Direct to reveal their September game.

My brother in Christ, I am legit concerned. How can I not be when we're halfway through the year they say Prime 4's coming out and we don't even know the season it's launching in at this point? And that "Out Now" fiasco on the UK subway banner certainly didn't help things

You had your June Direct with DK Bananza.
An actual Direct won't happen until after that game is out.
Nintendo ain't gonna push attention away from it by shilling a bunch of other games they have been working on.
End of July is the earliest you can possible get for a new direct.

And that's why I didn't want them to do a DK-only Direct. E3 may have been shit in its last few years (or ever, depending on who you ask), but at least Nintendo had a pretty decent blowout there every year (most of the time)

It will be after Donkey Kong releases.
Nintendo's marketing will concentrate on Bananza then we will see the fall releases.

I could be wrong.

It is possible to be the week before the Pokemon presents in July, but kind of unlikely to have one, as that would mean it would be a day or two before DK and Nintendo wouldn't want to cannibalize sales by hyping something else. We will instead get a Metroid Prime 4 final trailer (not direct) a week before the game comes out in August.

I doubt those banners with the "out now" on them were a mistaken print, they were made because the game would be out soon and they got sent out by mistake. Remember that Nintendo Today was made for delivering news they didn't feel they needed a direct for. Prime 4's release will be that.

Quite a few people also theorized that the "Out Now" labels may very well have been intended for Mario Kart World (and indeed, they are on that banner), but they just put them on the Metroid banner by mistake. In any case, on the Nintendo Today app they're doing a Metroid alphabet right now, so I can only hope it ends with a release date reveal (but knowing my luck, it'll probably be Fucking Nothing)

This doesn't really mean much, Pokemon Presents and Nintendo directs tend to happen around similar times. They've been both a week apart and around a month apart in the past. I personally don't think we're getting a direct until August/September but a Pokemon Presents isn't going to affect the scheduling.

More Directs during a launch year was plausible, but we got the unusually timed April one, so it seems we are waiting for September. I don't think Nintendo fancies June anymore.
The reason E3 existed in June, ahead of the dry Summer period, was to accommodate the logistics of physical games. E3 mainly existed for stupid retail executives to buy bulk Holiday season orders of Gex. Physical games are two decades gone and what remains is extremely consolidated into Amazon and Gamestop, at least outside of Japan.
September has better proximity at the start of the busy season. February is good for the off season update as the weather keeps people indoors and focused on video games and the internet.
