Germany is a snooze fest unless you go out of your way to shoot yourself in the foot. Japan is the thinking man's choice

I really, actually fucking suck at this game. I either run out of manpower or equipment, or I contribute almost nothing to the war.

Doesn't seem to matter if I'm playing Russia, Finland, USA, France, or Italy. I'm using pretty standard 20 width infantry/artillery armies and maybe one tank division but no matter how I build or how many divisions I build I can never push lines.
I swear exploiting AI is the way the game is meant to be played or something.

Japan is the most interesting major to play as since you need to juggle land/sea/air, handle China, go on an island hopping campaign, defeat the two largest navies in the world, strangle the allies' resources, and then figure out how to invade burgerland. There's a lot going on and timing is tight.

Germany is an autopilot snoozefest. Just passively build up for 4 years and steamroll Europe, then draw a big frontline arrow through USSR.

You don't need to buy DLCs. The game has a subscription option. It's not like you'll be playing the game all the time anyway, right? A month for 5 bucks is a good deal.

Air Hungary can be fun. Winning the air war solo for the Axis. Assisting hard-to-reach areas with TAC bomber CAS missions. Being the D-day wall and deliberately baiting landings to crush them and deplete the Allies.
