Smash Ultimate feels outdated. We need a Smash reboot with all new movesets.

>Link
Adult is fine as is. Toon needs more pull from his games like Skull Hammer, Mole Mitts, deku leaf, etc. Young needs to be more MM based.
>Kirby
Fine as is
>Samus
Rework a bit yes.

My schizo crack theory is that Samus was going to get a new moveset and more fluid physics to play into her more modern appearances, while Dark Samus as an echo would retain the slow lumbering physics she has now for those who enjoy her current playstyle (similar to how Dr Mario is the N64 Mario while regular Mario got faster and weaker), but with new Metroid delayed fifty times they had to just revert Samus to how she was before and keep Dark Samus as a nothing echo.

Ok, but if so, give the older movesets to "new" characters, with some new additions of course.

Give Legacy DK to Funky or Dread Kong.
Give Legacy Link (64/Melee) to Dark Link. Add like a mindgame cloaking Special that needs to be nerfed.
Give Legacy Kirby to Keeby lol. What do you mean you've never heard of Keeby?.
Give Legacy Samus (Brawl and Earlier) to SAX.
ez, but they won't.

some of the outdated movesets are pretty insulting. Like sunshine came out almost 20 years before smash ultimate came out but mario still uses fucking fludd of all things and it barely resembles something from the games anyway

I really hate it when he clearly doesn't give a shit about a character but he's forced to make a moveset for them. You can really tell when sakurai is and isn't passionate about a character

I think the thinking behind FLUDD was probably to make Mario a more literal jack-of-all-trades in giving him a damageless pushing option, but that's so niche in actual practice that he may as well have just kept Mario Tornado. It does still stand out as a strange choice for his moveset for the reasons you mention, especially with fully retrofitting Link to reflect Breath of the Wild while Mario only gets a Cappy taunt to reflect Odyssey. And Samus still gets jack shit.

The FLUDD thing is incredibly ironic because Mario's spin has become a staple part of Mario's moveset in every Mario game since Sunshine. Yet Luigi, who has an entire spin-off series to his name, is the one the keeps it.

FLUDD feels fucking weird to use in the first place, and giving it to, what should be the most basic character in the game, is so fucking stupid. Keeping it is even stupider. It should be a button that a retarded 5 year old should be able to understand and use sometimes. And Sunshine is my favorite 3D mario, not like I have a grudge against it. Just shocking it's still in Smash.

this is what most likely will end up happening. i expect the roster to be quite a bit smaller than ultimate, mainly lacking a lot of the third party characters. and they'll make it up by reworking all the movesets and probably including some first party characters that have been asked for for a while

It's ironic that we talk shit about FLUDD, but the Cape is also representative of one game and yet sticks around. I think they could have combined the Cape with the Tornado by making Tornado the side-B and giving it both the reflect property and the mash-to-float property.

doesn't make sense given how dated the 64 roster is
bare minimum for a modern dozen character roster you would
>move Yoshi into mario's moveset or have the Yoshi stampede from the Melee opening as his final smash or as a stage hazard
>outright cut fox, jigglypuff and ness, maybe even Cap. or Luigi
>add isabelle, or Tom Nook
>add the Squid Sisters as an ice climbers, or zelda, style dual fighter, idk why they added [PLAYERNAMEHERE] when Splatoon has actual characters available
>add Olimar and Zelda as unlockables

If Mario's down-B and Link's bombs can get it, so can Samus with a faster semi-auto beam fire. It's the least-invasive change compared to the others.

Well, of course he would, he hasn't had a big new game in years and outside of comics and his anime. He doesn't really have any moves to use for a moveset. So I imagine him, and Fox (and the rest of the Star Fox characters if they are there) will have their movesets remain untouched.

yeah characters like falcon and fox are fine to have a unique moveset and not change it because there's not really much to draw from

The problem is characters like link and ganon, who have PLENTY to draw from but they still have the same moveset from N64/melee. Link only recently got updated but he still plays pretty similarly to his first incarnation

HDR looks great, but the fact is that no one wants to set it up. The relative easy and popularity of Wii modding was lightning in a bottle. Also, modern Smashfags don't actually play the games for the gameplay, they play for the fantasy of playing as an official Smash version of their favorite characters. Many of them are even actively hostile to good gameplay.
