Why are WoW players more hardcore than FFXIV players?

Because WoW actually trains you to suffer. You want to raid in WoW? Hope you enjoy scheduling your entire life around 20 sweaty neckbeards screaming at each other in Discord because someone stood in the fire. You want to be competitive in PvP? Better enjoy getting farmed by people with 15 years of muscle memory and macros nested inside other macros. Meanwhile in FFXIV, you can afk in Limsa for 4 hours wearing a maid dress, do one MSQ dungeon, and the game hands you legendary loot and a housing plot.

It’s not even a bad thing – FF14 is comfy, stylish, and has some of the best written stuff in MMOs. But WoW was built different. It’s less a game and more a Stockholm Syndrome generator.

And yet, when it came out, WoW was the most casual RGP on the market. Its casual friendlyness is a huge part of what made it so popular.
