Decently early. No release window yet.
Directed by Munehiro Koyanagi, produced by Sakurai.
Sakurai stepped down as director but still oversees most stuff.
Same dev team as Ultimate (Bandai Namco Studio S + Sora Ltd).
Not a port but definitely built off Ultimate, plays very similar

Lots of roster cuts. Echoes are staying. They're avoiding cutting entire IPs.

Planned cuts (there will be more than this. also, may be readded as DLC):
Ice Climbers, ZSS, Ike, Pokémon Trainer (Squirtle/Ivysaur), Lucas, Toon Link, Young Link (sort of), Wii Fit, Rosalina, Little Mac, Greninja, Corrin, Piranha Plant, Min Min.

Characters getting full/partial reworks:
Mario – FLUDD is Up-B. Long Jump, Dive, Cappy, Galaxy Spin added.
DK – Barrel Launch (Up-B), Barrel Toss (Down-B).
Link – More BOTW/TOTK tools. Glider is Up-B.
Ganondorf – No more Falcon clone. Just smashes + Side-B remain.
Sonic – Reworked using Frontiers, Battle, Advance, etc.
Diddy, Wario, Luigi, Kirby, Cloud, Yoshi, Bowser also changed.
Some echoes tweaked (e.g. Richter’s fire hits once + pops upward).

Custom Movesets are in. Not like Smash 4, these are full alternate kits for people who prefer the current iterations of fighters(ex: you can play falcon-clone ganon if you don't like his new moveset).
Young Link is cut, but his moveset is available to Link this way.

Proper Story Mode. Made possible by the cuts.
Only known detail regarding the premise: newcomers are invited to Smash, but everything’s in ruin.

I think Smash Ultimate really will be the last Smash game in its current form. If they want to keep doing Smash it needs to be completely fresh. It needs a new genre entirely. They should add the third dimension and switch to an isometric view. While this would appear to be a RADICAL change at first, remember that Kirby made the transition in Forgotten Land just fine. However, this would also result in a massive roster refresh, not only justifying how many character wouldn't make it back but redoing the kits of existing characters to fit the new style. It would be exactly what the IP needs to reinvent itself without losing too much of its original identity.

Fake leakers are just the "my dad works at Nintendo" kids all grown up. They never stopped lying for attention, they just changed their methods.

Roster cuts aren't happening, we're either getting Ultimate 2 or a Switch 2 DLC upgrade for Ultimate.
