The hard ones (90% of the genre) are too hard even when you lower the difficulty.
I like playing the easier ones and try getting better and better scores in them instead.

Shmups don't take too much time in terms of individual attempts and it's relaxing to slowly but surely getting better. If you feel frustrated by them is because you are into checklist gaming instead of enjoying the process of mastery.
