Anyone else feel like the story loses its luster on replays since you already know the twist? I feel the same way about KOTOR 1 as well. I think big plot twists are just kinda lame.
>>713505326 (OP) >Anyone else feel like the story loses its luster on replays since you already know the twist? Nope. Getting spoiled beforehand obviously sucks, since in case of games such as SH2, the big carpet pull is kinda big deal, and was unique, new thing for vidya as a whole at the time.
That being said, the delivery of the plot, and the potential subtext / symbolism behind the experience are just as important.
>>713505503 I'm not criticizing the subject matter or themes of the story. Those are great. However, it's harder for me to enjoy a story again and again the more it hinges on a rug pull like you said. It makes all the lead up and foreshadowing related to the twist itself feel cheap and weightless when the mystery element is removed. I welcome disagreement though. >>713506217 It's important in this case since I think SH2 is a pretty mediocre survival horror game, gameplay wise, compared to 1 and 3. It's kinda carried by the story.
>>713505326 (OP) James is a pretty unlikable protagonist honestly. That's the main issue. And the fact that the game is easy as fuck because of too many resources and braindead nonthreatening enemies. Not a big game but it's a bit overrated.
It only lost effect on me since I not only did so many playthroughs of the game I also seen so many playthroughs and also video essays about the game. Its probably the game I have seen analyzed more than any other. It for some reason really attracts the artsy intellectual types to want to break the symbolism of the game and its story down. I don't think any other games out there seem to have people this passionate about it like SH2 does.
So yeah I've played and seen so much of it at this point and its probably why I didn't care as much for the desecration that is the remake. Plus they were going to do it regardless anyways and the series was dead for so long. So from what I have seen of the remake it appears to be the best one they have made in a very long time anyways.
