I like Undertale and Deltarune primarily because they're rpgs with a majority furry cast. I didn't care for the bullet hell mechanics.

I was one of the people who fell for the "ZeroRanger is the Undertale of shmups!!" meme and I think it's doing a great disservice to ZR because it will make people expect a story with wacky tumblr characters and subversive 4th wall breaking antics instead of mostly bog standard 50 minute long autoscroller.
ZeroRanger is a competent STG with lots of fun references to older shmups and an interesting an unique Buddhist theme, but it has almost nothing in common with Undertale except for them both having a COMING SOON hard mode. Finish Black Onion already you lazy finngolian fucks.

There's an Undertale bossfight in Zeroranger, and it can be mercy'd like a real Undertale enemy.

It's pretty approachable if it's your first shmup, the levels have a lot of variety and there's a stage select so you are never really required to play the game from the first stage unless you want to (to build up scores + lives). People overhype the direct Void Stranger connections but they are there if you pay attention.

Perhaps they're onto something.

Does Zero Ranger have funny dialogue, clever jokes, surprisingly emotional moments, decently in depth lore, whacky memorable characters, and incredible music? Because that's the real reason people like undertale, not a shitty background with low effort sprites sliding around

You shouldn't, anyone dumb enough to enjoy UT/DR would be eternally filtered by ZR, given it expects you to actually learn how to play the game. Before you fat chicks take the bait, remember that the game expects you to be capable of 1CCing it to beat it. Sure, it's a very easy shmup, but that's completely beyond your skill level.

Even funnier than that would be if UT fans tried to play VS, they'd shit themselves and piss and cry about the game not directly telling them where to go and get really upset about it.

Ok you know what, I'm actually curious, as someone who has played both Undertale and Deltarune, how hard is ZeroRanger compared to them? Let's take Sans in UT and the Knight in DR as a baseline, would you say the average ZeroRanger stage(I assume the game works with stages, progressing stage through stage) is much harder than those two boss battles?

ZR is honestly pretty easy. Sans fight is the only remotely difficult part of UT and I haven't touched DR because I'm not a tranny.

The key difference I guess is that Sans just requires one half-decent run and only takes a couple of minutes, while ZR expects you to play well for 20 minutes or so. VS would be borderline impossible for your average UT fan simply because the game expects you to have a brain, and that's mutually exclusive with being a fan of undertale.

They are about the same. Sans is not really that insanely difficult on an objective scale, he's just significantly more difficult that anything else in Undertale. ZeroRanger's normal stages are not that difficult either, it depends on how risky you're playing and whether you are using any of the defensive weapons that erase bullets. ZeroRanger's final boss and final challenge are both harder than Sans but that's mainly because you don't have any HP or healing and lose a life in one hit, so you have to play perfectly. An average player should have no problems beating it with some practice.
There's also a midgame boss that's a clear reference to Sans (>>713510660) you could look up a video of if you want a point of reference.
