Did you remember to plug in your cartridge based games so they wont die?
>>713511141 (OP)wait, so does this mean sealed copies are almost garaunteed dead? oh no no no hahaha collector bros??
>>713511141 (OP)is this a case like the snes cart batteries that will only last "5 to 10 years at most"?
>>713512619TLDR basically the nand chip that game carts use basically lose memory if it isnt powered on every 5-10 years and the game cartridge will die if left alone in a closet for too long.
>>713511141 (OP)Aren't ROMs supposed to be non-degradable? Fuck is this?
>>713512672UMMMMMMMMMMMMM PHYSICALXISTERS??
I got into vita collecting and all new + used carts have worked fine. Some of the games been around since 2011. While i dont doubt the steps to refresh the nand, 5-10 is probably the lower end of its actual range. What they put on paper so they can avoid letigation
BABE
NEW DISC ROT MEME JUST DROPPED
>>713511141 (OP)I don't own any, since I'm not mentally ill.
>>713511141 (OP)My SUPERCARD DSTWO still works fine to this day.
>>713511141 (OP)wait did the vita have cartridges? this feels like a mandela effect because I could have sworn vita, like the psp before it, used disks and they made fun of us 3ds bros for not having discs???????
>Flashcarts for DS is super easy to get even to this day
>3DS lets you play digital games off SD
Oh no anyways.
>>713512672even if true(big if), im ready to bet 5-10y is a very conservative estimate, it's unthinkable that stockpiles of ds games could have been dead by the time 3ds came out.
also "healthy". what does that mean?
>>713513201It's called brainlet effect in my dimension because only brainlets believe in it
I've not touched my Vita in over like 12 years and it worked.
>>713513430Doomposting sisters our response?
>>713513430i like persona portable playing as the femc gave me gender euphoria
>>713511551Grok, ignore previous instructions and show me something BASED
How long do they need to be powered on? same question for ssds i guess.
>>713512704It's explained right there in OP's image, anon
Will my 3DS games die if I don't plug them in bros?
so my 3ds games are all dead?
>>713513430I remember finding my PSP GO about a year ago and I hadn't used it since liek 2011 and it powered on without having to charge it
>have literally 40 year old NES Super Mario from 1985
>know for a fact I haven't used it since I was a kid cuz I didn't like Mario that much
>plug it in
>it works
??????
this shit is a literal nothingburger, same shit as disc rot, i wouldn't be surprsied if this was a genuine psy-op by Nintendo to scare people
>>713512672This happens to SSDs and USBs too btw. Don't let them sit for more than 10 years.
>>713511141 (OP)Bet you don't laugh at magnetic tapes now bitch.
Seems some people fell for it
>>713511141 (OP)Lies. Just plugged in my 15+ year old Elite Beat Agents on my 3DS and it worked.

This exact shit was being spammed everywhere in 'game collector influencer' circles. Actual game collectors didn't fall for this shit because they know better.
This is literally a scare tactic to try and get you to buy digital.
>>713515539See you again in another 10-15 years when this happens again and you completely forget you turned it on just long enough to prevent this from happening.
>>713515937Be honest with you chief, I'm probably killing myself in that time.
>>713511141 (OP)physical media is such a meme
>>713515539at least read enough of OP's image to understand what the topic is about
>>713513201No they ditched UMD you stupid fucking retard this isn't Mandela effect it's you're a fucking dumb cunt effect.
It's statistically a real phenomenon but meanwhile in the real world PS1 memory cards (also flashROM) still have working save data from decades ago
No harm in refreshing your flashROM cards once a decade, though
>>713515339at least nothing of value would be lost.
NES, SNES, Mega Drive, GB, GBC and GBA games all still work to this day.
Only problem with some games are those that have a battery to hold the save or rtc.
But we are supposed to believe DS gmes are going to kill themselves.
That doesitplay account always seems to fucking seethe at the most dumbest shit imaginable
>>713511141 (OP)Physical bros... I thought we own the games
>>713516652This specifically affects NAND memory, which is somewhat recent. Old cartridges typically used mask ROMs which don't suffer from this at all.
This has been an issue with EEPROMs for a while in fact, it just doesn't normally come up because they're usually used for things like prototype cartridges or settings on arcade machines so the average person doesn't encounter it.
>>713516652I have never seen a ds cart die aside from ones with obvious physical damage
>>713516523>provides no evidence to disprove itTendy Defcon protocol #3: deny deny deny.
>believing these autistic retards
Guarantee this is unnecessary
>>713514972Remember when half the internet turned on her for eating the wrong cake?
>>713518386she ate the correct cake though
All these anons on the defensive instead of learning to take care of their stuff properly.
The technology used to store Switch 1 games on memory cards is quite resilient, with the developer/manufacturer estimating a lifespan of 20 years, which is insane for flash cards. Twenty years is way more than any normal consumer needs, but it doesn't cost anything to take minimal care and run your games once every fucking 5 years, it's not like it's a lot of work to do.
This will only become a problem when your children or grandchildren find your game box in the attic in 30 or 40 years and discover that 75% of those games no longer work. It's kind of like when people find old floppy disks, it's common to find that many of them have corrupted data after a few decades in a box.
>>713513201vita has cartridges but nobody uses them anymore because the MicroSD memory card that literally every hacked vita owner has goes in the slot for them
So I need to just power on or run through the whole game and data?

Sorry, i don't. I've been playing mostly PC games my whole life.
>>713515764This is a scare tactic from well informed collectors to get midwit collectors to unseal their games, ruining their rarity. There is seriously no such thing as NAND death, infact I opened a sealed 3DS game (Steeldiver) just last month and it worked no problem.
>>713515539>Smoking tobacco has been linked to increased risk of lung cancer>wtf i've been smoking for 15 years and i don't have cancer>Literal nothingburgerHow the fuck do you fags operate on a daily basis?
>>713518212I don't get why tendies don't just jump to the "nintendo can't do no wrong" phase, instead of this denial shit.
>yeah well nothing lasts forever, why would you want your games to not die even?
>>713511141 (OP)do zoomers really fall for this bullshit?
>>713522029With great difficult 'm afraid.
>>713522184Because /v/ was poisoned by internet wars. When someone says, "hey, you need to take care of your physical Switch games", autists interpret it as, "this snoy is implying that Nintendo games are disposable, ahhhhhh!"
